5-21. Five-and-twenty … (wait for it) …-one.

That was the Mets’ record for the month of June, 2018. 5-21.

The Mets ended the third-losingest month in their history, with a whimper, not a bang. Having screwed up my schedule and not realizing this game was scheduled for a 4:10 PM first pitch, I ended up watching nary a second of it, so I can only offer you basically the same recap you can easily find on MLB.com/Mets. For this, I am truly grateful.

A Marlins prospect named Pablo Lopez outpitched Cy Young Award candidate Jacob deGrom. Lopez pitched six innings, allowing six hits, walking one and striking out five. The only two blemishes on his record were solo homers by Jose Bautista in the first and Todd Frazier in the sixth. deGrom had made the Bautista shot stand up until that sixth inning, when this game disintegrated. With one out, Derek Dietrich singled. Brian Anderson followed with a homer to left to tie it and … well, do you really want to hear about what happened next? You do? OK, then..

After J.T. Realmuto grounded out, Justin Bour drew a walk. Starlin Castro hit a single up the middle and JT Riddle hit an infield ground single to Wilmer Flores that gave Miami the lead. Just for kicks, the Fish added two more in the seventh off Robert Gsellman, combining a Cameron Maybin one-out pinch single, an error by Asdrubal Cabrera, and a double by Realmuto to seal the game away. The Mets and Marlins are now tied for last place in the NL East.

Series ends tomorrow. Somebody will be pitching against somebody else and it won’t matter: the Mets will probably start July 0-1.

Oh Wilmer you scamp. I guess you giveth and taketh away. Watching him wait for that ball was like time going into super slo-mo. It was a window directly entering Wilmer’s world. And its a very bad world indeed.

Time to let the tears Flo……..

Syndergaard and Flores for………………….see my previous list.

Since the 11-1 start, the Mets are playing .310 baseball. If June was the third worst month they have ever had, the worst and the second worst had to be between 1962 and 1965. They were worse than pathetic in June.

The Mets have to start making some moves and get rid of some of the dead wood.

The Mets suck, but how can they be this bad?

Motivation, where is the motivation? That is on Callaway.

It’s hard to follow a team when the season is basically over in June.

What have they got to lose by bringing Alonso and McNeil up? The Mets 80’s rebound began when they brought up Darryl Strawberry in 83, followed by Gooden in 84.

The next month is going to be interesting. My instinct tells me they unload Familia and Cabrera. I wish that we had a special dumpster for Vargas, Reyes, Bautista and Bruce.

This season could end up being one of their worst ever.

Hey, at least if they really continue to suck, they will get a high draft pick next June.

If they continue this for the rest of the year, Callaway will probably go and maybe the Moe, Larry and Curly GM triumvirate will go too.

I also wish now that someone would take Cespedes as well.

Alonso and McNeil might be ML players some day, but it’s probably safe To say there not Strawberry and Gooden! Maybe Duda and Backman.

I gear the Mets will feel “the need” to make a trade and settling for less than they should. I would be happy selling the spare parts and reloading with a solid pitching staff.

Wait…what were the two worst months?

      From Anthony DiComo on Twitter:

“Many of you have weren’t born the last time the Mets were this bad in a month. Worst calendar months in franchise history:

      July 1963: 4-25 (.138)
      August 1982: 5-24 (.172)
      June 2018: 5-21 (.192)”

Once again, Flores puts on full display of his complete and utter lack of baseball instincts. As much as his iron hands and god awful throwing are, this is his true undoing as a major league fielder. It’s something that can’t be improved. Either you understand how to play the field or you don’t.
The quicker this club rids itself of these type of woefully incomplete players, the better off they will be in the long run.
And the long run is all we have left.

The error was on Rosario, not Cabrera.
The game proved only that Jake is human and that much of the blame for this game he owns. He had 2 strikes on Anderson and couldn’t put him away. After that a walk, a single and the dribbler to Flores. You can blame Flores for not charging the ball and you can blame Jake for not getting off the mound.

Rosario is definitely hurting this club. His offense is offensive and his defense is offensive.

Keith made it clear. Flores is a fish out of water at 1B, strangely enough, his best position. He is a complete liability, even with the occasional near meaningless heroics. I think Pete in Iowa is 1000% correct: the faster the team rids itself from incomplete players the better. Too many round pegs in square holes…I mean Dom is a career first baseman playing left field so that Flores, who cant play any position gets more ABs. That is a Mets things right there. Flores is not an every day baseball player, and Smith is being devalued tremendously.

As for Jake. Even in the worst case, he dogged it some, this is a guy – the only one on the team – actually doing anything. If he needs a teammate to lift him, no big. But Flores triggers the problem: whats the pitcher to do? Flores did not charge the ball, first base was “covered”. He never had a chance to actually go after the ball. As a result Jake was in Limbo. Of Flores charges then the pitcher has to run to the base.
