It is more troubling that Harvey and Robles are pitching well. They needed a change of scenery, but it also may reflect what is going on with the Mets.

I think we would all like to be a proverbial fly on the wall in the clubhouse.

Would love to know how the players truly feel about Callaway.

It’s not all bad – Smoker has been awful this year and Reed isn’t doing well.

The Mets success in the scrap heap tends to be more on the position player side – Mesoraco, Bautista, Aoki. Even Reyes was decent the year the Rockies released him.

I wonder if Reed is easily fixable and if we could trade for him back on the cheap since the Twins are under .500. Sneaky way to rebuild.

More reason to trade deGrom now. No way he can be any better than he is as a Met right now and for the past five years.

I’ve never been really concerned about Friday the 13th – how can a Friday be bad? – but a tiny part of me wonders if they could have picked a better day for Syndergaard’s return.

Addison Reed is on the DL now I believe.

That’s a great idea to bring back Reed. I just love that guy.

All three of these pitchers should be looked at individually. To start with, didn’t we all notice that the Mets pitching improved immensely upon the arrival of a certain very smart catcher? If we never traded Harvey for him, the Mets pitching staff would still be at the bottom of the stats.

Robles has pitched in very low leveraged games. Up 3-5, down 3-5, and mostly in the 7th inning. Callaway kept trying “to get him going”, so kept bringing him into tight games, and he can’t handle it.

Goes dell has also mostly pitched in the 7th, and while his ERA and WHIP are pedestrian, most of the damage was done in his last outing in June to the Cubs, so he gets a pass as to just one bad game. He has actually been solid.

Absolutely the most interesting piece I have ever heard. I had 15 minutes to listen, I didn’t shut it off until it finished.

thanks for the heads up Gus!

My pleasure Chris. Many telling things here. First, the Mets analytical department versus the Astros, Dodgers, and Yankees, and they’re being 16% as big. Second, the Mets had to give up Fulmer for Cespedes and spent all day trying to avoid that. Third, how Murphy became the star he is. Fourth, what the Mets need to get back for DeGrom and why. Just on and on…

Mike Petriello works for MLB, but he came from Amazin Avenue, so his heart is still Mets. That, plus talking to a Mets executive for 16 years brings out alot of information.
