Another day, another blown Jacob deGrom start.

The mighty San Diego Padres — generally thought to be the worst team in the National League coming into the season; that’s a big joke now — arrived at Citi Field and took advantage of some shoddy Mets fielding and their by now customarily vapid offense to take the first game of this torpid series. deGrom pitched in his usual deGrominating manner, but was nearly matched by young Joey Lucchesi. In five-and-a-third innings, Lucchesi notched six strikeouts while walking no one and surrendering the Mets’ two runs.

After deGrom set down the Padres in the third, the Mets struck the first blow. Amed Rosario garnered a one-out bunt single. After Asdrubal Cabrera popped out, Rosario stole second. Wilmer Flores delivered him with a base hit up the middle. San Diego got that back and more in the fifth, however. After ol’ pal Eric Hosmer struck out, Christian Villanueva reached when Jose Bautista botched a fly ball. Villanueva stole second and Freddy Galvis brought him home with a single. Manuel Margot hit a triple on the next pitch and the Padres had the lead. They padded that lead when Wil Myers doubled and Hosmer reached on an error by Rosario.

The Mets facing a two-run deficit? May as well put it in the books no matter how well deGrom pitched — which, for the record, was eight innings, five hits, two walks, five hits and ten strikeouts. His record fell to 5-5. With a real team behind him, he’d be about 12-2.

Eric Lauer takes on Zack Wheeler tomorrow night.

Rosario should never bat leadoff, not the way he plays now anyway.

May as well have the growing pains now…….. his last AB was disappointing.

Regressing pains is more like it. Not that it really mattered with Kelly laying down the perfect bunt or Reyes not stealing.

Bunting with none out…stealing with 1 out? I’m confused.

This poorly managed team really failed to deliver runs. How do we have a fast runner on first with no outs and we can’t even get him to second base? This was one of those games where Amed Rosario looks lost – costly error in the field, wild swings at the plate.
