The Mets’ offense put up seven runs in the first four innings, allowing a sloppy Noah Syndergaard to post his 11th win of the season, as the Mets downed the Phillies, 10-5, Saturday night at Citi Field.

New York used a combination of big hits and bad Philadelphia defense to score early and often. With the Phillies struggling to score runs, they had Justin Bour at 1B, Carlos Santana at 3B, Rhys Hoskins in LF and Nick Williams in RF. With the bases loaded, Tomas Nido hit a ball to third base that Santana barely moved on and Hoskins didn’t do much better. It ended up a bases-clearing double.

The next inning, Jeff McNeil hit a ball down the first base line that got past Bour and noodle-armed Williams couldn’t get there in time to prevent a triple. Todd Frazier smacked a three-run homer to make it a 6-0 lead.

Next inning, there were two outs and runners on the corners when Jay Bruce hit a pop to left field that should have ended the inning. But Hoskins got a bad jump, the ball fell in and the Mets were up seven.

The Mets’ ninth run came on a sacrifice fly to shallow right where McNeil easily beat the throw by Williams to the plate.

Syndergaard, coming off perhaps his best game as a Met, struggled with his control throughout his 6.2 IP. He allowed 12 hits and 5 walks and saw his night end when he took a line drive off the ribs which drove in the Phillies’ fourth run of the night. That 12 hits – 5 walk combo hadn’t been done by a Mets pitcher since 1962.

Saw the highlights of Wright’s simulated game. Pretty cute that he stood there and they hit him some cookie grounders for this Made for Metsblog special. But, who was in the field? Callaway was the first baseman, Matz played second, and DeGrom played short turning all the double plays. Kind of tall for a middle infielder, but as smooth as in everything else. I am starting to see why people compare him to Tom Brady. Never a misstep; whatever he does, he does well. You don’t let people like that get away. I changed my mind about moving him, and I’d give him his 5/$110MM that buys out his two arbitration years and includes a $20MM signing bonus. Good for both sides.

Degrom is a no-brainer when it comes to signing him for an extension. He is a future Hall of Famer , Relentless to a fault, he is even-keeled, and he is the best pitcher in baseball. You can’t let this great player leave. Instead you keep him and make him a legend like Seaver is a legend. If anything, it is good business.

My gut reaction is that Noah syndergaard did an impression of Roger Craig tonight. 12 hits and 5 walks! Give me a break. But it sure feels. good getting the win.
Jeff McNeil is just rolling. Nimmo has been rolling all season. Conforto is a young player that is playing good recently as is Rosario. Even Plawecki established him self as a better then average catcher. And waiting in the wings is Alfonso and Giminez. Good times ahead, even has soon as this afternoon when degrom takes the mound.LGM
