It was a successful day for the New York Mets, as they swept the Miami Marlins in a double header,4-3 in the first game and 5-2 in the second game.

The first game was one packed with power both on the mound and on the plate. The Mets starter for the game was Steven Matz, and he played a big part in helping the Mets earn the victory today. Matz went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs while walking two and striking out four. Matz was not only able to handle himself well on the mound, but at the plate as well.

Matz, who has been known throughout his Mets career as competent at the plate, rocketed a home run in the bottom of the second inning. The ball, which went 395 feet, was the longest ball off of a Met’s bat for the day. There were a lot of long balls hit by the Mets today, and it ended up aiding the team.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Michael Conforto stepped up to the plate and smacked a home run that tied the game. Todd Frazier, the next man up, hit a home run to walk off the game. There was a fire lit after the end of the first game, and it would carry over into the second game.

Jason Vargas, the goat of the Mets staff, (not the good kind) took the hill in the second game of the double dip. He was solid, as he pitched six solid innings while striking out seven and allowing two runs. It was possibly his most solid outing of his Mets career. My Gut Reaction is that Vargas is feeling pressure already to make the rotation next season, so he is pitching for future job security.

The real story of the night was Tomas Nido, who sprawled out to make a diving catch. Later in the night, he drilled a home run to deep left field. Continuing to hit in both games was Amed Rosario and Conforto, which is great to see for the team moving forward.

Tomorrow night, the Mets will head up to Boston to take on the Red Sox. Noah Syndergaard will take on Hector Velazquez at 7:10 pm.

    Conforto’s homer was crushed.

Great fun to be winning games again. Some kid who didn’t live through it is going to be looking at the 2018 season at some point in the future and wonder – what the heck happened in June and May?

I’m hoping the Mets will hire into New Baseball Direction very soon…they need to address that June-May question, and assess the “realness” of the more recent success.

A double header sweep with the two back-end pitchers almost winning and pitching good. If those pitchers pitch like this in 2019 then the league ought to be scared. Dalton, I don’t agree with your gut reaction. Vargas will stay in the rotation unless he is totally horrific. The Mets have a history of playing a player because of their salary not of their ability. I think an article comparing Oswalt and Vargas would be a good project. My gut reaction is game one: remarkable! game 2: Conforto can carry the team like a star. Today he put them on his shoulders and carried them.
I did not like the Umpire standing in the way of Frasier home run at home plate. I thought it was bush and antagonistic.

Stay safe Metsense. Hope you guys have power.

Let’s face it, the Marlins are AAA team. The stats shouldn’t even count, and I think MLB needs payroll floors. This is ridiculous.

That’s the same umpire that threw out Craig Counsell on Sunday when he came out to complain why Bumgarner wasn’t thrown out of the game when he came in tight on three consecutive pitches to Braun after warnings were issued and then eventually hit Braun to load the bases. After the gripe, as Counsell was almost back to the dugout for what wasn’t really an argument but rather just calm questioning, this ump threw him out so Counsell went back and argued vehemently. Well, the umpire wouldn’t let Counsell off the hook so easily and he chased after him to make his points.

The next hitter Jonathan Schoop hit a 2-2 pitch over the fence off Bumgarner.
