Poll: Who’s your pick for new Mets GM?

It may not be the three finalists that we wanted but it seems like the Mets will make their decision sooner rather than later. And while you can be disappointed that your favorite candidate turned down the opportunity to interview, you should also be relieved that some of the guys rumored to be in the running didn’t make it to the final stage.

With that being said – who’s your pick?

Of the three remaining choices, who's your pick for GM?

  • Chaim Bloom (81%, 102 Votes)
  • Doug Melvin (12%, 15 Votes)
  • Brodie Van Wagenen (7%, 9 Votes)

Total Voters: 126

I wanted Bloom from the start he’s both an analytics guy and a player development guy and he’s done more with less in Tampa Bay and is very creative. Melvin admitted that the game passed him by three years ago and would be the most boring hire ever. I expect Melvin to be hired though.

Me also^ and also don’t think the Wilson’s aren’t capable of hiring a good GM. They are crappy owners.

Look like Melvin got the job I despise Fred

Sounds like Chaim Bloom, who interviewed yesterday for the Mets GM opening, will not be holding a conference call with reporters. He is expected to issue a statement, as did Brodie Van Wagenen earlier in the week.— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) October 25, 2018

I wasn’t going to weigh in on this until I had done reporting, but now I can confidently say that the Mets gave each candidate the chance to do a conference call. Melvin was fine with it, Van Wagenen and Bloom opted not to. Nothing more to it than that.

I’m not excited about any of them. The Wilpon meddling dynamic scared off all the really good ones. Now we’ll have to settle for a young geek, Wilfred Brimley or an agent who’s never worked for a team before.

I’ll take Bloom. Cant see an agent being a good GM. Melvin is too old school.

But, I bet that Melvin is selected. Hope I am wrong.

Fred Wilpon is making the selection, so expect someone he’s comfortable with. Melvin has successfully run organizations before but someone that was burned out once won’t last long. However, can you give an organization to a young guy that has never run an organization before by himself and you don’t know if he will be in over his head? Melvin is the safe choice, Bloom is the “swing hard in case you hit the ball” candidate. We are all younger than 82 so we want Bloom, but a 82 year old man won’t take that chance. Prepare yourselves.

Chris, after I read it like three times to make sure I read it right, I fainted.

Surprised Melvin out, but I didn’t faint. At this point I’d prefer Bloom, but it will be interesting regardless. Unless the Wilpons scare them both off at this point.

Pretty nice interview with Brian Kenny. Bloom seemed nervous, especially at first and you can see him thinking as he’s talking from the small pauses in some of his comments, but held it together quite well.
