Now that everyone has had a chance to consider the deal for awhile, it’s time to weigh in on how new GM Brodie Van Wagenen did in addressing the catcher issue by signing free agent Wilson Ramos to a two-year deal with a club option. Ramos has a track record of both good hitting and injuries. Is he the right guy for the 2019 and 2020 Mets?

Hard to answer this question right now. Will be easier to judge once we see what it took to land the two superior catchers. I rank Ramos third of the three but if he winds up coming a lot cheaper than it was the right move. Alternatively, if BVW misread the market and Grandal winds up returning to the Dodgers for about the same as what we gave Ramos, I’ll be super unhappy about the deal.

I’d be surprised if Grandal signs for close to what Ramos get. There are rumors he’s got a four-year offer on the table. Who knows if those are true and at what AAV. Maybe it’s 4/$40 and that’s why he hasn’t signed.

But what’s surprising to me is that he was offered the Q.O. and didn’t take it. I know you want the long-term deal but he’s not getting multiple years at that AAV. Maybe he just didn’t want to go back to LA…

Brian, with the Dodgers benching him during the playoffs, Grandal was embarrassed and isolated. If I were him, I would not go back and still look at myself in the mirror. The QO is nice and all, but at his age he needs to cash in. He just is trying to get his best deal and all this is held up by the clown that craves attention and this is the last bit of it he will get for a while.

Ironic that he gave up his whole outfield for so little but now he put the high value on his catcher?? He knows this is his last headline and is hanging onto it. At the end, Realmuto will go for a B deal for nothing close to what he has publicly put out there.

Ramos is clearly the best fit for the Mets, even if he isn’t the best of the three catchers. He adds some RH pop, know the division well, and doesn’t cost a draft pick. Realmuto is a better player but the price is too higg for the Mets.

Conservation of Asset Pool…I like the signing

Ramos (789) is projected by BR to have a better OPS than Realmuto (785) and Grandal (773). Defensively Ramos is average (carreer +1 Rdrs/yr) but better than Realmuto (-6) but inferior than Grandal (+14). Ramos signed a cost effect contract. He does not cost any personnel or future personnel. The Mets have only committed to two years. Ramos has checked all the boxes;right handed batting offensively player, non- liability defensive catcher and an experienced veteran to handle the staff. When weighing all the factors, Ramos was the best choice to upgrade the catcher position.

It’s a good signing of a defensive catcher who can throw out runners and be a strong bat in the lineup who only cost money and not one of our potential future lineup mainstays. Let’s us also start to clear out the second tier of catchers who have been our starters who brought neither a strong bat nor defense to the plate. Hope BVW is not done. He has done great despite all the doubters – me included. Can’t wait for the start of spring training.

Were there 111 Votes in this Poll…or are you Fluffing results for Ratings?

111 unique Votes would mean that there are a lot more people here than I would have guessed.

Maybe we’re going to see some more posts and lively discussion….imagine all the Grammar Mistakes! 🙂

While I had Marshmallow Fluff as a kid, I’ve done nothing else in my life that could be construed as “fluffing.” Now, while there’s nothing to keep people from voting multiple times, I’ve never tried to influence the results in that way. Half the times I don’t even vote in the polls.

FWIW, we had one poll with 940 votes.

Is it a secret ballot?…can you I.D. the multiple voters. I’d like to remain Competitive, and I’m willing to step up my Voting Game!
