Last year New York had a terrible Grapefruit League record in no small part due to playing Houston so many times. The Astros beat the Mets pretty regularly in 2018, going 5-1-1 in seven games, and that trend continued in the first match-up of 2019 as they scored a 10-1 victory despite being the road team and leaving most of their front-line players at home.

But the first two games of Spring Training have seen a win over the Braves and two extra-base hits from Pete Alonso, so it hasn’t been all bad.

Six games out of 34 won’t put a huge dent in your spring record.

I see Jake got the same run protection he’s become used to!

MLBN loves Noah Syndergaard, even more than JDG. Noah is more charismatic and with the Twitter has more following.

However, it’s about time he step up and claim a place in the elites with a knockout year. He has the ability, he needs to have one of those years, then, the Mets will never afford him.

I have a question that I’ve always wanted answered.

As a Mets fan, the most severe trauma I suffered in my young life was when the Mets traded The Franchise in 1977.

The second most severe trauma I endured was in 1983 when the Mets foolishly allowed Seaver to be snatched away by the White Sox.

Here’s the question: Given that the Mets finished a mere 6 games behind the Cubbies in 1984, would Seaver’s presence have enabled the Mets to overtake the Cubbies?

I would strongly appreciate the kind of in-depth answer I often see at this here blog. I will use the results to either strengthen or undermine my notion of karma in baseball (or perhaps retribution from the Baseball Gods?)

Not sure Jose that they would have won, in fact, they may have finished further back. Had they not lost Seaver, that’s one less pitching spot to be available and Davey Johnson would not be able to convince Frank Cashen to keep Dwight Gooden. So, its Gooden or Seaver. Gooden was only 19 while the next youngest was Sid Fernandez at 21. Other starters included Ron Darling, Ed Lynch, Bruce Berenyi, Walt Terrell, and a few starts by Tim Leary and Mike Torrez.

Gooden may have been a mid-season call-up but having gone from Class-A Lynchburg to the Mets unless there was a clear spot open would be hard to expect. More realistically, they wait until August to bring him up once the other options had run their course and were traded away.

Well, another old guy is hurt. Three games in and now Frazier is hurt. We knew this was coming.

He’s been around for a long time with various groups. Believe he’s with Metsmerized now. Really good guest but we had some sound issues last night.
