It’s difficult not to notice that the 2019 season is starting out in the same fashion as the 2018 one. Last year, the Mets opened up against a team expected to compete for a playoff spot, the Cardinals, and took the opening series, 2-1, after winning the first two games. Those games were also started by Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom, although the order was flipped.

We can have the comparison continue for about 10 more days. But after that, it’s time for a new script.

I think going forward, I’d use Vargas between Thor and Wheels as Thor’s fireballs will help Vargas’ slower stuff, thus helping Wheeler’s fireballs before turning to a lefty again (Matz) before JDG. In fact, if I thought of this, why can’t they?

The only one that doesn’t see much benefit is Syndergaard, who follows DeGrom.

The nice thing if they had split up the lefties is that it meant that Wheeler would have started tonight in Miami, where he has been terrific.

    Mets lineup for tonight

    Rosario SS
    Alonso 1B
    Cano 2B
    Davis 3B
    Conforto RF
    Ramos C
    McNeil LF
    Lagares CF
    Matz P

I don’t mind sitting Nimmo vs a lefty once in a while and Rosario is good vs lefties so fine with him in the leadoff spot vs a lefty, but sitting Broxton, who crushes lefties for Lagares is strange. I also don’t like Davis hitting fourth and Ramos sixth they should be flip flopped.

      Amen, on everything.
