Jacob deGrom was absolutely masterful last night. 7 innings, no runs, 2 hits, 14 Ks and he hit a home run too. In two starts, he’s allowed zero runs and struck out 24 in 13 innings. Before the young season started, I predicted a back-to-back Cy Young award. I stand by it.

Quick response to early looks at my Players of Interest:

-Alonzo: Nice command of Strike Zone. FastFast Bat….Big Power without the Big Sellout
-Broxton and Juan: Broxton has some Zone Command and a History of Pop. He’s Encouraging. Juan shows very little in the way of managing ab’s—doesn’t know his own hittable pitch. He’s Discouraging!
-JD Davis: Looks a little tentative at the plate…bat looks a little slow (Confused?). How did he get a late inning double switch into third base? I’m still interested.
-Dom: Dom has always looked like an Athletic, Old Fashioned Hitter. He’s still very young, and he might be unlocking his ability.
Nido: This guy needs Minor League ab’s and an Athletic Trainer.
    McNeill: Is for Reil!!!!!!
Matz/Vaquez: This is how far Matz has fallen….the two lefties are completely forgettable, and forget their first outings versus the Marlins Minor League Lineup. Vaquez is a committed soft tosser…so He at least understands his own approach. Matz????— Mid 90’s, lefty….. and it looks so umimpressive and undefined on the mound. He’s like a b-ball player who looks impressive in the layup line, while being invisible during the game. Very Discouraging.

Yep on all points. Rosario needs to be focused 100% all of the time. Offence and Defence. Obvious there is Talent there but he just needs to focus to be a star.

On deGrom, he might be the best Met pitcher I’ve ever seen live, and I saw Seaver Koosman, Gooden , Santana, Cone and Dickey. Last night he had filthy no hit stuff. Every game he pitches so well. Very, very consistent, and more consistent than even Seaver.

This is Seaver and Ryan like performance.

Minor league season starts tonight. Binghamton still doesn’t have a current roster but Gimenez is not in Syracuse so I guess he starts in AA.

Brian, if Gunners gets sent down is McNeil our emergency SS until Lowrie returns?

Maybe that’s Todd Frazier’s new role!

Also, according to MLBTR, Davis has two options remaining.

“In New York, the soon-to-be 26-year-old Davis will provide depth behind third baseman Todd Frazier, whichever first baseman the Mets choose (be it Peter Alonso, Dominic Smith or Jeff McNeil) and corner outfielders Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto. With two minor league options remaining, the Mets won’t be under pressure to place Davis on their Opening Day roster.”

What’s this bidness with Darling claiming (in his new book?) that Dykstra made some awful racist remarks against Oil Can Boyd?

Just finished a podcast with Joe Vasile. Joe’s going to do some broadcast work for the SWB Yankees, their Triple-A farm club. At the end of the podcast, we decided to have a group participation project with Joe. Let me know your contributions after you hear the idea. You can listen here:
