It was a battle of two flamethrowers as Jacob deGrom took the mound against Chris Paddack. Paddack made headlines with his pregame comments about the Rookie of the Month award, which seems to have stirred up Pete Alonso. The Padres right hander came out on top, striking out 11 Mets batters over 7.2 innings. The Mets have now dropped four straight games and seven of their last 10 games as they sit in third place in the division.

The Mets’ bats, which was once their strength and an improved approach, have been faltering of late. My gut reaction is that Wilson Ramos (with a .591 OPS so far) and Michael Conforto will bring their bats back around, however Robinson Cano has looked lost at the plate and yet continues to be slotted third into the lineup.

Adeiny Hechavarria made a few nice plays at shortstop that his predecessor may not have gotten to. deGrom did his part, posting a quality start and striking out seven; my gut reaction is that deGrom is back to his caliber of last season and we will be talking about a few starts in April as the lone blemish of his season.

Noah Syndergaard takes the mound against Cal Quantrill Tuesday night as the Mets look to bounce back and start a winning streak of their own.

Sorry to say, same old hitless Mets. A big shake up is needed, starting with the manager, the bench coach, and the hitting coach. Looks to be yet another long summer.

The good news is that Wilmer Font will be tomorrow night’s starting pitcher. Im curious, who had that on their predictions list for May??
