Early in the year the Mets had success because six of their eight regulars were hitting. The only two starters not getting hits on a regular basis were Robinson Cano and Brandon Nimmo. But here in the month of May, the team has a .190/.235/.290 triple slash line. That’s, um, not good. How bad is it? Well, it’s even worse than what the team hit in the 2015 World Series, when they slashed .193/.254/.298 and if we learned anything from that World Series, it’s that it’s tough to win games when your offense struggles to that degree.

There are 10 players with at least 10 PA for the team this month. Here are their PA and OPS:

McNeil – 30, .690
Alonso – 29, .740
Cano – 28, .632
Conforto – 28, .549
Rosario – 26, .769
Nimmo – 24, .262
Ramos – 23, .408
Frazier – 19, .105
Hechavarria – 11, .364
Davis – 11 – .182

Nimmo got some days off and the last two days seems – he said, hopefully – to be getting back on track. Perhaps some of these other guys could get a day or two off, too.

Frazier pinch hitting yesterday was stupefyingly and he’s been worse than Reyes was last year with the bat. He should e dfa’d but instead Davis will get sent down due to Frazier making eight mil.

It would have been nice to have Dom Smith on the roster to pinch hit instead of Frazier especially since the reliever was right handed.

Guys, stop speaking logically. These are the Mets, not some big market team like the Brewers or the Reds, who just DFA’d Matt Kemp.

But the dodgers are still paying his contract is my guess.

I dont get the Smith thing. He’s getting very few PAs and will be immediately exposed. Ok, a lefty off the bench is fine, but holding down a 35 man guy that cant do anything but PH a lefty would make LOOGY seem like a versatile player.

Smith has already played 52 innings in the field, which is more than Scott Rice ever pitched in a full season in the majors.

Speaking of Matt Kemp, is he a CAA client?
