After losing two of three against the Nationals, the Mets came into the night in need of a win against the Marlins who they were 5-0 against on the year. Jacob deGrom, with Wilson Ramos behind the plate, took to mound for the Mets and was knocked around for six runs over five innings. Tonight also marked the first game in which Carlos Gomez made an appearance for the Mets after the Mets designated Keon Broxton for assignment earlier in the day.

Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis did their best to keep the club in the game, knocking in two runs apiece. However the Mets were too far behind and were unable to take command of the game, even after a late push in the eighth inning. Jeff McNeil, who left the game with an abdominal injury yesterday, pinch hit in a tough spot and struck out. Jeurys Familia looked strong in the eighth inning, working through the Marlins bottom end of the lineup with ease.

The Mets will send out Steven Matz tomorrow afternoon, who is returning from a short stint on the IL. At 20-23, the Mets sit four game behind first place in the National League East and own a -18 run differential on the year.

Mets are now 0-21 when trailing after seven innings this year and the Mets like yesterday came close but it wasn’t enough, and for the second day in a row the game was on the line and the Mets had a crap hitter at the plate.

Jacob deGrom has not been himself for the most part in his careerwith extra rest and he got clobbered by a team that hadn’t scored in a week and started an OF of Berti, Cooper and Ramirez with a horrid infield and with Neil Walker as by far their best hitter. The Marlins had a wRC+ in the 60’s coming into tonight and crushed deGrom. I mean Jake threw like twenty plus pitches to Cooper in his first two at bats. I mean if deGrom just has a mediocre start the Mets likely win. Jake is the biggest goat in tonight’s game and Cano is the second goat with his double play in a pitch spot and his pathetic at bat in the ninth where he chased sinkers and sliders way out of the zone and got himself out.

Not blaming Mickey for Gomez being in there over Davis as he wanted Davis in there and was overruled because he told Francesa that Davis was playing in LF. JD breathed life into the Mets tonight with his homer but also popped out in the 8th with no outs and the bases loaded so a mixed bag.

I question pinch hitting McNeil for Rosario and Rosario has had a good month but then again you can’t know that the pitchers spot is gonna come up in the ninth and that at bat in the 8th might be your best and last chance to get to Romo. That said, when Hech is the last guy on your bench not including Nido it’s not what you want.

Alonso is a monster and his first homer was just a flick of the wrist is just insanity and so was his second one he’s just a star.

All in all losing to the Marlins by giving up all those runs is unacceptable just terrible and the season seems to be spiraling.

Cano is Robbie Alomar Part Deux!

Nobody to blame but the Wilpons for hiring a know-nothing as GM, in their pal, Brodie Van Wag-pon.

BVW has turned a very mediocre team into something headed towards pathetic! This team will fall apart before August. Yes, there is some young talent. But if the Wilpons made the right baseball move and would have hired Chaim Bloom for GM, we would be moving in the right direction instead of spiraling down towards the Marlins. And it will only get worse because if you think that Jeff and Fred are going to spend money over the next several years with encumbrances like Cano ($24 Mil per annum for 4 more years) etc., you’re dreaming.

Roy, don’t worry buddy, we all know that they will suck more in the future and their minors are completely empty. However, I don’t know if they’ll become the Marlins, maybe more like the Tigers with no farm system?

Bloom was also interviewed in Baltimore and passed over by the top assistant for the Astros. I mean, the Astros? LOL, they haven’t won a World Series in over a year!

Also, until Cano spits at an umpire, he could never match Robbie Alomar. Unless it’s Angel Hernandez… LOLLLLLLL! Just kidding. That was classless and disgusting. Shame on a guy so many had lauded.

Gut reaction: it is not a good sign when the schedule gets easy and you don’t capitalize.
deGrom through a clunker and Calloway should have removed him in fifth inning just like the booth said. Instead, Callaway had his second best reliever, Lugo, warming up to go into a 5-1 game. Meanwhile, gsellman, who has been the third best reliever has been getting cobwebs in the bullpen. Lugo should have been inserted in the rotation and gsellman should have taken the place of Lugo. Last night, was an opportune time to start Davis in left field. Cano should not be batting 3rd.
Frasier had a nice offensive day but going forward Davis has earned the position.
Familia is now ready to resume his 8th inning duties. All the more reason 2 stick Lugo in the rotation. Every loss makes me feel Callaway is not the man to right this ship.
