Well, May isn’t shaping up too good for the Mets. And if this feels like deja pooh, well that would be correct. In 2018, the Mets went 10-18 in the merry month of May. The last time the Mets were above .500 in this month was 2012.

There’s no consensus on what you call the second decade of a century. Some call in the “tens,” while others call it “the teens.” And some stress not to use either of those terms. Whatever your preferred choice for the 2010-2019 time period we’re living in, the Mets have gone 119-149 for a .444 winning percentage.

That may not seem downright awful to you at first glance. This hasn’t exactly been a glorious decade for the Mets, after all. But what makes May so disappointing is that it comes after generally solid Aprils. This decade, the Mets are 131-111 (.541) in April. And that’s strictly April, as Baseball-Reference breaks down monthly records to include March.

The question of the week is, does Callaway get the ax this week or not ? My gut tells me, that he does not get the ax.

I thought there was a chance that he’d get fired if they got swept. But he survived that so unless the losing continues non-stop this week, I’d expect him to at least make it to the All-Star game.

I love owners that run a business like that: tells you they don’t give a shit. I’m not saying to be George Steinbrenner-ish with knee jerk reactions, but when you identify that an employee isn’t fit, what are you waiting for?

Again, I like Mickey and I don’t ever want people to lose their job, per se. However, when you are a leader of an organization and you have a problem and you allow it to continue…. Need I say more?

I am surprised he didn’t get fired after the sweep by the Marlins, but I honestly don’t think that a new manager will make a difference. I truly believe that Callaway’s hands are tied in most cases and his decision making is minimal. Everything with Cano is a great example – he continues to hit third without producing and Mickey won’t (is prohibited from?) benching him for not running out ground balls. I believe 100% that those are mandates coming from upstairs – Cano is Brodie’s guy.

I’m not defending the job Callaway’s done, but do we really expect it to be different with Riggelman or another manager there? Unless they hire someone from outside that makes it clear they are running the show 100% (and I can’t see that happening), nothing will change.

The best hope is that players start playing and showing some pride.

I don’t pretend to know how much leeway Callaway has in these decisions.

But if it was me and I felt like I was fighting for my managerial life – and Callaway should certainly feel that way – I’d rather go down doing what I felt was right than carrying out every instruction from above 100%.

GM wants to play Todd Frazier on a semi-regular basis – fine
GM wants to keep Seth Lugo in the bullpen – fine
GM wants to start Wilmer Font until Vargas gets back – fine

Ballplayer with a .667 OPS shows a complete lack of hustle that impacts two games in three days? Put him on the bench, regardless what the GM says.

1 hit…2 hit….. This is clearly not a “Manager Problem”. That’s not a defense of Callaway, but a reality of the situation.

They are playing without several major parts…..and they have several major parts who are not producing.

They were well postioned to Trade into a Pennant Race—they may be better suited to trade out of one, as things appear.

And now, the drum roll please. Cespedes “steps” into a hole and breaks his ankle. What an utter waste of money.

No way Mike, not to this karma kicked team! You must be making this up! LOL!
(When I read the news, I almost puked.)
