I don’t care if you’ve been following the team since 1962. That by itself doesn’t make your opinion any better than someone who started following in 2015. Some of the best commenters at the site have been following the team since the 1960s and they bring with them their knowledge and experience. Some of the worst posters at the site have been following the team since the 1960s and think that makes them special. It doesn’t. Come here curious to learn new (or old) things and consider new (or old) ideas. If you think the only things that matter are Wins, RBIs and batting average – please go somewhere else. If you think everything is done better today than it was 40 years ago, you’re just as bad.

This is from our Comment Policy. I was reminded of this when someone wrote about Amed Rosario – “at best he’s a .260 hitter.”

You’ve got to do better than that.

Adam Frazier of the Pirates is batting .258 and has a .690 OPS, a .294 wOBA, an 81 wRC+ and a 0.6 fWAR.

Daniel Vogelbach of the Mariners is batting .256 and has a .939 OPS, a .392 wOBA, a 154 wRC+ and a 2.1 fWAR.

If you think those two players are equal, well, you’re not very smart.

Stop using AVG to determine how good a hitter is – it makes you look like you’re driving 10 mph under the speed limit with your blinker on for 25 miles. Come join us in the 21st Century.

    Answering insult with insult?

Cano is 486 hits short of 3000. Al he needs to do is get 486 hits over the next 4 1/2 years and hit .240 for us with an on base percentage of .290 and he will hit the prestiged guaranteed hall of fame milestone!

Isn’t that awesome that he gets to suck while playing for us for five years, while he chases 3000 hits.

    Thanks Brodie

Dave Eiland and Chuck Hernández (bullpen coach) have been axed. The shoes are starting to fall. I’m trying to figure out and have been asking, how none of the relievers have improved…. I guess Jeffrey is asking also.

    • Brian Joura

Wow, didn’t see that coming. Can’t say that I thought Eiland was the problem or even a problem. But the pitching staff’s inability to avoid the gopher ball has to fall somewhere.

Well, if there was any doubt, Callaway has been put on notice. It will be curious to see if Jason Bere ends up here. Seem to recall he was someone Callaway wanted earlier.

In: Phil Regan (age 82), Ricky Bones…back to his pen.

        • TexasGusCC

Regan? LOL. These guys just insist on being a laughing stock.

    • Chris F

ok, that s a start…but the reality is blaming the bullpen coach or the pitching coach is not gonna fix this.

  • Mike Walczak

They fired Eiland and hired an 82 year old guy – oh boy. Grandpa from the Munsters.

    From Tony DiComo:
Brodie Van Wagenen’s message today was that the Mets are a better team than they’ve shown. He believes in the roster and believes in manager Mickey Callaway, and thinks this team can still compete.

    Tim Healey
Brodie Van Wagenen says Mickey Callaway has “my full vote of confidence.”

    –> Delusional to believe this.

    Mike Puma

Source says Jeff Wilpon remains as Mickey Callaway’s biggest backer in the organization, making it unlikely the manager will be fired in season unless this year becomes a complete fiasco.

    • TexasGusCC

On that note, someone said why not keep Callaway as the pitching coach and get Girardi?

    • TexasGusCC

“… unless this year becomes a complete fiasco.”

LOL, Chris, it isn’t yet? Are you expecting worse? Can’t blame you. LOL!

  • John Fox

Tommy Lasorda as Mickey Callaway’s successor. Book it.

    • Mike Walczak

      Miller Huggins

  • MattyMets

I’m down with the WIP and the WAR, but who’s Dan Vogelbach? Wasn’t he in Steely Dan?
