The Mets scored six runs over the final three innings to pull out a 7-5 win over the Pirates Saturday night in Pittsburgh. The win tied the series at 1-1 and the Mets will try to win the rubber game Sunday afternoon.
Wilson Ramos, who had an RBI single for the Mets’ first run in the first inning, hit a two-run homer in the eighth to put the Mets up, 4-3. Then he delivered a three-run double in the ninth to give the visitors a 7-3 advantage.
Edwin Diaz surrendered a two-run homer in the ninth for the final runs.
Marcus Stroman made his Mets debut but it was a forgettable outing. Staked to a lead before he took the mound, he proceeded to give up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. His final line was 4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB and 3 Ks
This was a good win, and not easy. The Pirates were pumped. They are home, got swept last week by this team, haven’t had good results lately and have their ace on the mound against a pitcher getting alot of publicity lately. They were pumped alright. Ramos bailed out the offense with a series of big hits, and the Mets overcame some fortunate runs for the Pirates. The bases loaded walk was strike three and another bases loaded HBP was a pitch that hit the back foot of the hitter. Good for the Mets to overcome these bumps and prevail.
Gut reaction: Ramos might not field his position too well but his eyes light up when runners are in scoring position. I am surprised that a American League team would not want somebody like him this winter in a package deal.
In his last two outings, Diaz has struck out the side both times but he also gave up a homerun each time. Lugo just received the reliever of a month award. It is time to change closers.
It is Sunday, it is a rubber game and Noah is pitching . We need a good win this afternoon with distance by the starting pitcher because we have a double header tomorrow.
