The Mets finally broke through with an offensive outburst, scoring five runs in both the eighth and ninth innings en route to an 11-5 win over the Phillies Friday night in Philadelphia. The win snapped a six-game losing streak overall and was just their second win in their last nine games against the Phillies.

The final score hides the fact this was a pitcher’s duel for the first six innings. Aaron Nola, who so owned the Mets last season, did not allow a run in the first six and Zack Wheeler, after three consecutive poor starts, gave up just one.

But the Mets got to Nola in the seventh and tied the score thanks to a pinch-hit RBI single by Wilson Ramos. The hit extended his hitting streak to 23 games. The Mets had the bases loaded and just one out but were unable to score any more in the inning.

But they made up for it in the next two frames, thanks mostly to Todd Frazier, who supplied three-run homers in both innings. Amed Rosario got the scoring started in the eighth with a two-run single and Frazier followed with his first homer to give the Mets a 6-1 lead.

Justin Wilson pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win. But the best relief pitching of the night occurred in the eighth, when Edwin Diaz turned back the clock to 2018 with a 10-pitch inning that featured two strikeouts.

Pete Alonso delivered a one-out single in the ninth, his third hit of the game. Michael Conforto followed with a two-run homer to give the Mets a seven-run lead. Frazier came to bat again with two runners on base and delivered another homer. The first HR was a line shot but the second one was a more traditional fly, estimated at 384 feet.

Chris Mazza allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth but kept the Mets from using any additional relievers. After a brutal week where they suffered back-to-back sweeps, a win with 11 runs scored was just what the doctor ordered to start this six-game road trip against division rivals ahead of them in the standings.

Doesn’t matter now. They had a chance and they crapped the bed against the Braves and Cubs.

So, your last comment here came two months ago. You complained in that one, too. You’ve made 18 comments at this site and complained in every one. Do you get off on being miserable?

It must suck to be you.

        LOL!!

I know I’ve made some negative comments here but I’m not miserable and I’ll try to say some positive things, too. Frazier was pretty good his last few times up. I like how he threw his arm into that ball to get on base. He should do that more often.
