Wilson Ramos and Todd Frazier combined for seven of the Mets’ 13 hits as the offense continues to enjoy its trip to Philadelphia, leading the Mets to a 6-3 win over the Phillies Saturday. With the victory the New York pulled to within half a game of Philadelphia in the standings.

Ramos extended his hitting streak to 24 games with an RBI single in the first inning off former battery mate Jason Vargas. The Mets added another run in the third, thanks to an RBI double by Michael Conforto.

Vargas dodged further damage despite near-constant baserunners. But his luck ran out in the fifth inning. Frazier drove home Ramos with an RBI double to make it 3-1 and Joe Panik followed with a two-run double. That was all the Phillies needed to see and Vargas was immediately yanked. The Phillies are now 2-4 in games started by Vargas and he has a 5.18 ERA since the trade.

Frazier and Ramos teamed up one more time in the ninth inning, with Frazier driving in Ramos with a single. Frazier finished with three hits, a run and two RBIs while Ramos had four hits, two runs and an RBI. The production from those two and Conforto made up for a combined 0-13 from Pete Alonso, J.D. Davis and Juan Lagares. With today’s 0-fer, Lagares is batting .135 in his last 11 games. That five-game hot streak of his seems a long time ago.

Steven Matz started and cruised through the fifth inning but ran into serious trouble in the sixth and was removed before recording an out. Four relievers finished up, with Seth Lugo pitching the final two innings for the save.

The Mets go for the sweep tomorrow night in the ESPN game.

Luis Avilan unsung hero getting the double play. Mickey pulled Matz at the right time but him asking Panik to bunt with Lagares on deck was so fucking imbecilic we all know Lagares is not a major league hitter at this stage and lol at Keith to agree with that call. Ramos has been unbelievable during this stretch you know who else is having a big August? Michael Conforto who despite a bad June has had a terrific season and has completely flown under the radar, which is a shame.

Mickey also made the right call pulling Familia against Harper and credit to Wilson, who has been tremendous in the second half got Harper and Morrison-it helped that Hoskins was tossed early in the game.

Frazier had a couple more big hits but non bigger than him showing off hops robbing I forgot who of a rbi double.

All in all fun to win a series vs the Phillies now sweep the leg Danielsan.

I agree. Frazier’s spear of that line drive was huge.

Kudos to Ramos who has certainly stepped up since the break and continued bashing even through the 6 game losing streak. It’s one day at a time. Need to the Phillies today. Time for Stroman to have a big game. When do the reinforcements arrive?

Shame some of the guys who are hot or suddenly figuring it out couldn’t get it together in the first half. Imagine if Familia, Diaz, Ramos and Rosario were like this in May and June?

From May 1 to June 30, Ramos slashed .284/.361/.480 in 166 PA

The reality is that our BP let us down. Otherwise we would be much farther ahead in the standings and challenging the Braves for the division. The rest is just about slumps, aging players and the injuries that go with the 30
    Somethings.
