The Mets pounded out 13 hits, including three homers, and put the ugliness from Tuesday night behind them with an 8-4 win over the Nationals. They ended their six-game road trip against division rivals ahead of them in the standings at 4-2.

Robinson Cano made his first start since being activated from the IL and produced a three-hit game, including a two-run homer. Juan Lagares and Pete Alonso also homered for the Mets. It was the 45th homer of the year for Alonso, who now has 105 RBIs.

Zack Wheeler needed 101 pitches to get through five innings but he allowed just one run and picked up his 10th win of the season. It was another lousy outing from Jeurys Familia, who turned a 7-1 lead into a 7-4 advantage. That led to Seth Lugo coming in the seventh inning. Lugo pitched two scoreless innings and Justin Wilson closed out the game.

All eight starters had at least one hit except for Wilson Ramos, who saw his hitting streak come to an end.

Ok so maybe now CNN will stop talking about last night’s game but I was freaking out when Calloway brought in Familia.

Nats blew that game. Down 7-1, it was there for the taking since Famiilia was certainly accomodating.

Had we not blown last night’s game I’d feel really good about this team right now.

Nice bounce back win by Mets. They deserve to be roasted for Tuesday night but deserve to be credited for their resilience. Kudos to Cano for a great return game. As bad as he has been in 2019, a diminished Cano if far better than Panik. Mr. Familia has clearly proven that he should only be used to avoid sending a position player to the mound. Mr. Diaz should be used ahead of Familia and the Syracuse roster expandees only, unless no other choices. Fixing these two is now an issue for spring 2020.

Diaz and Familia have just killed us this year. I dont know what is up with Familia, but maybe Diaz just cant pitch under the big lights.

I wonder if Diaz has pitched all season with one of those very slight, but often damning, adjustments due to injury.

Recall the BVW “rule” not allowing Callaway yo pitch him 4 outs?
