Zack Wheeler pitched his best game in a month, going seven strong innings to lead the Mets to a 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks in the second game of a four-game series. With the win, the Mets moved within a half game of the D’Backs in the race for the second Wild Card.

Wheeler gave up a first inning run but did not allow another in his seven innings. He finished with 7 Ks and lowered his ERA to 4.21 with his 15th Quality Start of the year.

Todd Frazier put the Mets ahead in the second inning with a two-run double. He added to the lead in the fourth inning with another RBI double.

Justin Wilson got the final out of the eighth inning and all three outs in the ninth, with the last one being a strikeout of Wilmer Flores, to earn his second save of the year.
