So, Pat Murphy is the Mets’ “bombshell” managerial candidate. Not sure who would have qualified in my mind as bombshell material – but pretty sure Mr. Murphy isn’t anything close to what was dancing in my head. So, started muttering to myself – Why did they choose the word bombshell to describe this previously unknown candidate?

Lo and behold, went to Google to look up the word and it spit out the following definition — an overwhelming surprise or disappointment.

So, it was the perfect word.

So, many of you know that my son is in a band. This weekend they played two shows, including one that was in the college town of Boone, N.C. – a place they’d never played before. Here’s an original song of theirs that they performed in Boone.

Thanks for sharing Brian! Funny title and a rocking song for sure. They are very talented and I am happy they had a great crowd at App State! Interesting definition for bombshell, but I have to say the end of that song is more like a bombshell than Pat Murphy

Thanks for checking out the video! As for the title, it’s the opening chord sequence, although I’m willing to bet one of them had a thing for a girl named Emma…

    Awesome!

A band with guitars drums vocals and not a dance entourage??? Is this the 90s?

    Love the vibe.

Thanks Chris! Yeah, these DIY places have fantastic energy. Brendan (BVac) should tell us about some of the places he’s played.

I know that it is not a long time, but this managerial search is already starting to feel really old. Callaway gets fired and he gets a new job, before the Mets select a new manager.

They have a core group that they interviewed and brought back for second interviews. Then it is the mystery candidate rumor that surfaces. It feels like a secret santa. BVW will stick his hand in a bag and pull out a new manager.

The Wilpon’s will probably end up selecting a new manager that sells them the cool aid that BVW sold to them.

Most other candidates would not be considered to be bombshells.

So who could some bombshell candidates be ?

    Jessica Mendoza ?
    Scott Boras ?
    Barack Obama ?

    Should be an interesting week.

Yeah, I’m ready for the manager search to be over, too. I guess mainly because I’m sick of going to MetsBlog and having the majority of their content being about guys who I don’t want to even have an interview, much less get the job.

But, the Wilpons were always unlikely to announce a managerial hiring before the end of the World Series.

So, no one wants to wonder why the Red Sox hired the GM candidate the Mets didn’t want? The same Red Sox with the huge analytics department? I’m thinking Brodie was their first choice, but he was taken. So, they pivoted to Bloom.

Bloom in Boston can do pretty much what he would have done in NYC, in a similar market, with less of a head start than BVW had. Let’s see what happens…

Another possible read is that they couldn’t believe how lucky they were because the Mets hired a reckless gunslinger that would mortgage the future for expensive washed up vets — like the GM they just fired. Instead, they elected to zero in on one the most talented GM prospects in the game, who is capable of seeing and developing talent knowing about real cash restrictions. Its quite possible Bloom was honest about where he saw the Red Sox and accepted the challenge to bring down costs some and be competitive in a division he knows and competed well in.

Meanwhile, 37 yo Cano will be playing 2B every day, we have 15 corner OF, or maybe thats 10 corner OF and 5 util/bench guys, a catcher that is slightly better than an old school pitch-back on defense, and a team that seems to have an allergy to catching and throwing a baseball.

If you guys are anticipating that the Wilpons will kill any prospect for a Good Team, I can’t really argue with the History as Prologue Theme.

What I will argue is the clear fact that they have a strong core to build out. Roster Talent and Trade Assets and an Ability to write some Checks. They have well controlled Positional Talent and Projectable Quality Starter Innings, 2.5 million attendance, and a TV Network.

They should not have the same Roster in April as they do now….but the present Roster is a Big Asset. The argument that they’re in poor position is way off base. They’re in a great spot!….. will they squander it?—that’s a different argument.

Having Played in Bands, I would set the Baseline of Success as “There are Some Chicks Up Front”—The Band is a Success!
