It’s been an eventful offseason for the NL East. The Braves lost Josh Donaldson but gain Cole Hamels and Marcell Ozuna. The Nationals lost Anthony Rendon but bolstered their bullpen, which was such a sore spot last year. The Phillies added Zack Wheeler and Didi Gregorius. Even the Marlins got in on the act, signing Jesus Aguilar, Corey Dickerson and Jonathan Villar.

The Mets lost Wheeler and let Todd Frazier walk. They made multiple pitching moves with the addition of Dellin Betances, Brad Brach, Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha. The big move is Betances, who if he is recovered from his injuries could provide a great late inning option out of the pen. The Mets need competence from the other three.

It’s shaping up as an exciting division once again.

    I say first!

This I base on a complex statistical analysis where I determined the preponderance of the individual instances of so-called “regression to the mean” favors the Mets over their division rivals

Note: I am not a statistician, but I did earn a grade of “A” in the most recent graduate level Stats course I took (and subsequently mostly forgotten)

Obviously the Marlins are destined for the cellar. The other four teams all have a lot of talent but some notable weaknesses. The 4th place team will be the one that gets hit with the injury bug. What separates the other 3 will be surprise years from rookies and bounce back candidates. The head-to-head games will be exciting and of great importance in the standings.

I think Phillies will make a run. Harper bounce back & strong management.

It’s going to be a tough division.

How does rookie manager cope w Cano & possibly Cespedes?

    Mets 3rd.

The first thing I did was to look at the totals. With a smile on my face I saw it was a vote for the optimistic Met fan.

I only vote is for some exciting and memorable baseball.

The Mets put themselves in a position (and Donaldson and Rodon leaving) to win their division so I will pick them like a loyal fan to be First. They are in a very competitive division where four teams should knock the stuffings out of each other. Their September schedule is easier after the 10th. 90 wins and win the division by a game.
