Did it occur to you when you first started watching MLB that the managers were former players? It didn’t to me but no one ever said kids were known for their advanced reasoning skills. Anyway, I was reminded of this when this morning’s email came in from Baseball-Reference and it said that on this date in 1950, future Mets manager Wes Westrum went 4-4 with 3 HR. Hope that day helped make up for going 142-237 in his Mets managerial career.

I think Yogi cured me of that.

    60 games. A .550 winning percentage means 33-27, 6 games above .500.

    Will be very interesting…

Casey Stengel made his MLB debut in 1912, five months after the Titanic sank.

My Father Hated Wes Westrum. He felt that Westrum Ruined Ron Swaboda, taking away his aggressiveness. My Father then coached me as a 14 year old…and ruined me as a Hitter by taking away my aggressiveness—and insisting that I hit like Nellie Fox/Felix Milan.

My Power and Production later returned when my next (politically incorrect) Coach asked, ” Why The F#$k are you hitting with that Giagantic Bat?”.

It occurred to Me, years later, that I had seen My Father play Fast Pitch Softball… He was The NYC Coronet League 1967 MVP…. an absolutley Great Fastpitch Pitcher…the best….. and I remembered that he was a Crappy Hitter!

    Mets signed first-round pick PCA

Only second-round pick remains unsigned. They went underslot with the last few picks and did not have to go over to sign PCA, so they should be able to get Ginn signed, too.

Nice story, Eraff. We should start calling you Gigantic Bat.

Maybe i’m being too much of a purist, but honestly at this point hoping for no season than one with all these gimmicks (extra roster, DH, short season, unusual schedule).

Or play the season under the Grapefruit/Cactus league configuration and not have the stats from this season count towards official records.

    From today’s Keith Law chat:

BVW: Do you like my draft strategy from the last 2 years? I like a few high upside guys with lesser talent rather than solid guys across the board.
Keith Law: I like the Mets’ draft strategy for the last several years. I don’t think that is Brodie’s strategy.

    Klawchat 6/25/20.

Interesting take by KL. Too bad there wasn’t a follow-up asking who specifically should get credit.
