With their moves at the trade deadline, the Mets have three transactions to make today. The easiest one will be adding Robinson Chirinos and optioning Ali Sanchez. That still leaves opening up spots for Miguel Castro and Todd Frazier. The Mets have already optioned Franklyn Kilome a couple of times after he had a multi-inning relief appearance and he went three innings and threw 46 pitches last night. That brings us to Frazier.

The roster at Mets.com already lists seven infielders but that’s a little misleading, as both Jeff McNeil and Dominic Smith have seen time in the outfield. Still, speculation is that one of Andres Gimenez and Luis Guillorme will be optioned to make room for Frazier.

Gimenez has cooled after his hot start but he still brings an element of speed that’s at least as rare as the righty bat that Frazier adds to the dugout. And while the hits are falling in at an incredible rate — .533 BABIP!! — for Guillorme, it would be disgraceful to send out a guy with a .976 OPS for Frazier, who had a .734 mark in his two seasons with the Mets and who currently sits with a .702 OPS in 2020.

Ariel Jurado didn’t do anything to deserve another start. Besides, with the injured starters back now, it’s more than likely that Robert Gsellman will move back to the pen. Jurado should be the other player to be optioned. If the Mets insist on keeping 14 pitchers and carrying either Kilome or Jurado, they should cut Billy Hamilton. With Jake Marisnick back now, there’s little need for two defense-first center fielders on the roster.

Matt Harvey might be soon available on the waiver wire.

Angels, Royals, he needs to retire.

Really dislike trading Smith, who was the closest to major league ready starting pitching prospect as Brodie has decimated the upper levels of the farm pitching wise. Castro has pitched decently this year, but the hard hit rate is always high and he’s going to his 4th team already at age 25 and has a career 4.74 fip. Frazier is having his worst year of his career so far as is Chirnos and at ages 34 and 36 respectively it could conceivably be the end of the line for both. Frazier has really fallen off power wise the last few years and against righties, and Chirnos has been much worse than Ramos— I was hoping for the Mets toget Castro to platoon with Ramos, who has been bad vs righties this year and hasn’t been able to hit fastballs this year. I wish Brodie had stood pat honestly.

I agree with you David. I could maybe see taking a chance on Castro but trading another starting pitcher prospect just doesn’t seem to make sense. As far as Frazier there’s no need or room for him on this team. That move is a real head scratcher.

Obviously, word is out the Brodie is a sucker. Stand your ground and he’ll give in.

I was hoping the Mets would get Christian Vazquez. It really troubles me that they trade for these two over the hill players, when there are other young players on the team who could get playing time. I cant wait for Cohen and see Van Wagenen get fired. The Mets have 24 games left. Who would do something like this as a GM? Only one I can think of.

The Frazier trade is puzzling. BVW spins that was done to obtain a right hitting batter. Frazier plays 3B and 1B and so does the right handed batter 3B JD Davis and 1B Pete Alonso. That leaves DH and sitting down either Smith .944 , Cano .924, Conforto .886 or McNeil .730 OPS vs LHP for Frazier who has an OPS vs LHP of .939. I don’t see the value of doing that. As a PH the only starting batter that Frazier would hit for is is Nimmo and his .582 OPS vs LHP.
The Chirinos trade was insurance just case that was another injury in the depleted catcher corp. It was not my first choice though.
The Castro trade was spun that that he was a late inning high pressure guy. He has a 1.41 WHIP and in the last two year has a 5.0+ BB/9. Same old same old.
Today they are 2.5 games back of a playoff spot behind 4 teams and BVW is still building for now.

How about some 2021 $teve Cohen signings:

Trevor Bauer (age 30) and Brad Keller (25) as starters to join deGrom, Peterson, and Lugo?

    George Springer (31) for CF?

    J. T. Realmuto (30) for C?

    Blake Treinen (33) for RP?

New GM and Manager — Who?

Tom has been my sports hero since 1969, when I was seven years old.

      RIP 41

RIP Tom Seaver. He reached the pinnacle of NY sports, and unfortunately he had some tough times in his final years. He certainly gave the Mets an identity and hooked me on baseball. Condolences to his family, friends, and Met fans that were lucky enough to experience his play.

Seaver was a Personal Hero…He was such a great combination of Intelligence and Drive and Ruthless Power. My Brain always holds a vision of Seaver Dropping and Driving and Charging Down the Mound with a ferocious attack toward Home Plate.

He was The Greatest Pitcher of His Time.

I was 10 in 1969…Seaver was 25… We would Never Grow Old…..but We Did
