FanGraphs: Mets Make Trevor May Their First Major Offseason Addition. “May ranked 21st on Craig Edwards’ Top 50 Free Agents list at the beginning of the winter, the second reliever listed behind ex-A’s closer Liam Hendriks, and ahead of big names such as Brad Hand, Blake Treinen and Kirby Yates…the ranking isn’t so much a reflection of May’s past as it is the potential teams see in him.”

MLB Trade Rumors: Complete List Of Non-Tendered Players. “Some of the more notable non-tenders included Kyle Schwarber, David Dahl, Archie Bradley, Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall, Maikel Franco, Nomar Mazara, and Carlos Rodon.”

Transactions:

New York Mets traded Amos Otis and Bob Johnson to the Kansas City Royals for Joe Foy on December 3, 1969.

New York Mets traded Arsenio Diaz, Curtis Brown, Billy Carthel and Don Koonce to the Montreal Expos for Jim Gosger on December 3, 1971.

New York Mets traded Tug McGraw, Don Hahn and Dave Schneck to the Philadelphia Phillies for John Stearns, Del Unser and Mac Scarce on December 3, 1974.

I noticed that the Cano trade wasn’t listed in your 12/3 transactions. Why light the fuses first thing in morning, huh?

Can’t believe Archie Bradley got cut. And the Cincy GM is telling his reporters that, “we can bring him back too.” Sure buddy, all the other teams will just avoid a guy with a 2.95 ERA since 2017.

Gus- I had it on the other post – twice in fact. It’s funny National Pastime said that the Amos Otis trade was one of the worst trades in the Franchise’s history…let’s see what we say about the Cano trade in 5 years.

From MLB Trade Rumors >>>>> 12:31pm: The Mets are in “active talks” with McCann, tweets Fansided’s Robert Murray, who adds that a four-year deal indeed looks possible. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman tweets that the Mets are making a “serious push” to land the former White Sox backstop. HOF19- you beat me to it. I’d much rather have Realmuto but maybe there’s truth to that rumor that he doesnt want to play in NY or maybe settling for McCann will give us the flexibility to also sign Springer. McCann would certainly be an upgrade over Ramos.

I will say this ………We seem to be in a mode that once we decide on a particular player we really want we get the “getting it done part ” finalized asap !

Signing McCann to a three year deal also gives Francisco Alvarez three years to develop.

McCanns pitch framing drastically improved and he has the same career caught stealing rate at 35% as Realmuto.

I think they will sign him and then off to the next shiny objects of George Springer and some pitchers.

Your lips to God’s ears HOF.

Lets go Sandy – get McCann. Cohen was not going to sign the all three of the top three free agents in his first year as owner. This gives us plausible cover for working on at least one of the other two.

I’m ok with McCann but I’m not in love with that 4th year that’s rumored.

    • Remember1969

There are two things about the fourth year which I might consider.

      (1) An extra year might drive the cost per year down . . i.e. 4 years for $36M vs. 3 years for $30M, saving a million a year .. not overly significant, but ..

      (2) The guy has been a MLB player for 7+ years. If Alvarez is ready to come up in 2023, McCann will be 33, so they can split the dish around 50%/50%, with an experienced catcher as the backup; In 2024, Alvarez will be the starter, and McCann will be an experienced backup (75%/25%). Better than the days of d’Arnaud/Plawecki where neither had that deep experience. I don’t believe they will promise McCann 80% of the starts for 4 years.
