Sean Gilmartin was a pretty good reliever for the Mets in 2015. His career didn’t go so hot after that season, though. Essentially, he’s a footnote in team history. If you remember him at all, it’s likely for his ugly sock game. He wore stirrups which went up to his knee caps. It looked like he lost a bet and his buddy made him wear them that way.

Gilmartin made the news recently for a non-baseball reason. Turns out he’s married to White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

This was a great read – thanks for posting.

I saw this article tweeted about this morning. A very informative piece about the “New Mets”, Alderson, data sharing, McWilliams, and two-seam vs. four-seam fastballs, and an “up-down” rather than a “left-right” approach to pitching!

      Loved it!

      Thanks Matt.

Indeed, a great article Matt. Thanks for sharing.

As I’ve read about half of it so far, the part where he’s talking about getting to 98 throwing the four seamers, I can’t help but think of Syndergaard. This may be why he’s giving up so many cheap hits: the two seamers he loves to throw. The Mets have always stressed throwing strikes and throwing them with just a small dip at the end – which is what a two seemed has to “generate ground balls” – isn’t fooling hitters any more. This may be something Thor should embrace.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Mets are close to finishing up a four-year deal with McCann. According to Anthony DiComo, there may be final negotiating about dollars at this point.

I’m hoping that the fourth year is a team option year, but we might have had to go to a clean fourth to get him. The backend of the deal could be McCann serving as mentor and backup for Alvarez.

Now on to Bauer and Springer!

  • JimO

Mets do seem close to signing McCann. If they get both Springer and Bauer, that’d be awesome!!

On a side note: I am not in favor of doing a Bobby Bonilla day but I would strongly support an Ed Kranepool day.

Agree all the way JIMO ……..Thumbs up on getting McCann…..Springer…….Bauer. Thumbs down on a Bonilla day ……..Thumbs up on a Ed Kranepool day !

    Great article.

    I’m still rooting for Tanaka.

How the heck does Flexen get 2/$4.75 after just one season in the KBO? And in this economic climate… He wasn’t even the best foreign born pitcher on his team.

Futures in spin rate are doing quite well this year.

Name, when I first saw that about Flexen, I thought it was either a joke or a typo. I saw absolutely nothing encouraging from this guy in his time with the Mets. Is Cory Oswalt next in line?

To my knowledge, Flexen is the first player to do a “one and done” in the foreign leagues and then return to MLB. I would think he is also one of the youngest too having gone over at age 25 (as opposed to 27+) which could partly explain why he got as much as he did. This could be a new path that other players will follow in the future.

The vast majority of players who do come back typically spend 2-3 years before coming back stateside.
Colby Lewis, Eric Thames, Josh Lindbloom, Miles Mikelos are the ones i can think of off the top of my head.

The Rule 5 draft is done. It looks like we traded our major league pick to the Pirates but were very active in the minor league phase choosing five players. It looks like only the Reds made more minor league picks.

Look like one of the teams who needed a first baseman, is off the table. Six player trade between Texas and Tampa Bay. Nate Lowe went to Texas and has a great shot at starting.

I just hope that Alderson doesn’t get outplayed in the trade and free agent front.

What kind of offers will the Mets make ? Will they be a low shot off the bow offer that will then be negotiated or will it be great offers out of the gate ?

Hope Cohen meets his goal of giving us a great Christmas present.
