For the second straight night, the Mets’ starting pitcher left the game with an injury after the second inning. And while the results weren’t as ugly as Monday’s, let’s not pretend that a 5-0 loss was a close game.

The Mets offense has been non-existent these two games in Atlanta. In 18 innings, they’ve scored one run and managed just three walks. And the 14 strikeouts Tuesday certainly didn’t help matters any, either.

Pete Alonso and Starling Marte, who’ve both hit very well here recently, are a combined 0-12 with 7 Ks in the series. And the only reason it’s not worse is that both were removed early in Monday’s game.

Taijuan Walker was removed due to back spasms, so the hope is that his injury isn’t as serious as Carlos Carrasco’s, who’s likely out for a month with an oblique strain.

Rumor has it that Eduardo Escobar is going on the IL, too. If so, there’s an excellent chance that top prospect Brett Baty will make his MLB debut.

Brian, I feel badly for those who invested their evenings these last two nights. I have been fortunate enough to be busy at work so I just followed along with notifications. I have to admit, for the first time in many years, the Mets managed to catch me at a unprepared.

When I saw Alvarez came into the game, I said “who?” I clicked on his name to see who the heck he was, and when I saw, my mouth fell agape. I check every single box score in the Mets organization every single night, and yet this guy wasn’t on any radar. De Oca would have been interesting… Clay would have been ballsy…. What the fck are they bringing up a pitcher that hasn’t pitched in the big league for anyone in six years? And then have him as the first man out of the bullpen? Does this team really have championship aspirations? I doubt it.

It’s a cutthroat business and sometimes decisions are made on who to promote based more on who can the organization afford to lose on waivers rather than who could potentially provide the best help to a team in a given game.

I understand, but you need to win a game, even if it’s just one. My point was not only why is this player on the roster, but, he was also the first one in. They designated Plummer today, why not yesterday and activate De Oca? Then, find someone else for Baty. Or, with Clay on the 40 man, bring him up instead.

It’s amazing that they think Alvarez has any value. When I write about a team’s championship aspirations, I ask you, do you see the Dodgers using this particular pitcher against the Padres? You want to try him against a lesser talented team than the world champs, well… maybe the Nationals, if there was something you needed to gauge… I’ve said enough, you get my point.

Gut Reaction: Morton was awesome last night. Alvarez and Nogosek were bad. Smith and Hunter are injured. Walker got his injury in the second inning. Maybe, with the scored tied 0-0, they could’ve turned turned to the premium relievers but then the bullpen would have been burned. Sometimes the Alvarez type player surprises. Last night he didn’t but the bullpen is rested to save the games for the Aces.
I feel confident that they will split the series and have a 5.5 lead again. Even just one game will insure a 3.5 game lead. LGM
