Rich Calder of the New York Post had an excellent piece on Steve Cohen trying to land a casino in Willets Point. There will be three casino licenses issued and two of them are seen likely to go racing establishments in Acqueduct and Yonkers. Cohen’s group is likely to be in a battle with a group that contains old pal Fred Wilpon.

Some believe there’s little reason not to have casinos. People are going to go to Atlantic City or Foxwoods or other places of that ilk and gamble. New York might as well reap the benefit of those dollars rather than New Jersey or Connecticut. But plenty of people are opposed to gambling for a host of reasons, ranging from the possibility of organized crime being involved to the disproportionate ways that it affects poor people to opposing it on religious grounds. Sounds like an interesting poll question.
