Note: The following exchange took place during Tuesday’s game against the Rockies, starting with David Wright‘s strikeout in the top of the third inning and going on into the bottom of the third.

Hernandez: “Fastball away, he can’t reach it. David has a hard time covering that outside corner. Ralph (Kiner, who was in the booth on Mother’s Day) mentioned it. See it’s a strike but the bat can’t get there. That says it all right there. He’s swinging, he’s on it and the bat’s not long enough.”

Cohen: “Is it simply a matter of moving up on the plate?”

Hernandez: “He’s close (to the plate), he’s pulling off, he’s pulling off.”

“We’re talking about David, we’re going to freeze on his plant foot. Now see, he’s already starting to do this, which is his fanny flying out. We’ve been saying he’s not staying in with his shoulder but it’s his fanny that’s coming out.

“Now let it go guys. And then the shoulder has to come out. He’s trying to stay in but once you fly out with your (fanny) you’re in trouble. You’ve got to be more like that and driving into the pitch. He’s not stepping into the bucket but see he’s out here, everything is moving away from the plate. He can’t reach.”

Cohen: “So it’s not that he’s not standing close enough, he’s moving away with his rear end? Is that strictly a mechanical issue that you can solve or is it something deeper?”

Hernandez: “That may require some serious psycho-analysis. I don’t know, I don’t know what’s going on inside.”

Hernandez went on to tell a story about how his dad cured him of bailing out with his bottom with the aid of a broom stick with a squeegie on the end of it. Keith should use the same drill with Wright ASAP!

Could it be a lingering effect from when he got Matt Cained? Do we need to go back to the Great Gazoo helmet? These are actually serious questions…

I can’t see how it’s not a reaction to the former. But nobody wants to see the latter.

Right on Keith..he started this last season when hojo wanted him to hit with more power to left field. Wright will over rotate his hips with his fanny out…his old stance was more upright with stepping into the ball….what’s with this new batting coach no vision?
