The offense surely frustrated Mets fans once again, as the team would have plenty of scoring opportunities, yet struggled to capitalize.
- Bartolo Colon went six innings, let up three runs (two earned) and the Giants had 10 hits. Colon was lucky to get out of the sixth inning, and he ended up finishing with a quality start.
- Kevin Plawecki had a strong offensive performance tonight, hitting two doubles. Johnny Monell and Plawecki could form a nice platoon until Travis d’Arnaud returns.
- Matt Cain pitched a nice game, as he went six innings and held the Mets scoreless.
- Curtis Granderson had a triple and a walk, but was thrown out at the plate by Hunter Pence. This summed up the offense’s performance. A leadoff triple gets thrown out at the plate, and a leadoff double gets stranded at second base. The Mets should have had at least two runs tonight, but failed to execute.
- Jenrry Mejia warmed up in the bullpen, but was not put in the game, as Alex Torres and Carlos Torres were used to finish the game.
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis started in centerfield, and struggled at the plate tonight. Even though Kirk had a solid game last night, I still wish Michael Conforto was called up and starting in left field.
Jacob deGrom will pitch against Jake Peavy tomorrow, as the Mets look to take the series against the Giants.
“Johnny Monell and Plawecki could form a nice platoon until Travis d’Arnaud returns”
Really? 2 good games and you’re suckered in? They have a combined OPS of around 570 OPS… This is possibly the 2nd or 3rd worst combo behind the plate right now in all of MLB behind TB and Seattle
This was a very boring game. The Pence play was great. Pence is not a Sandy type of player and that tells you everything you need to know about the state of the Mets. Slowly Plawecki is adapting to major league ball. Over the last 30 days he has a respectable 721 OPS . Johnny Mo has a 681 OPS over the same time frame. Plawecki is getting 2 out of every three at bats and for now, and under the circumstances, that is a good mix. No disrespect to Kirk here but at this point bringing him back gave me a psychological fan feeling of the Bobby Abreu move last season. The message to me is that if you fail you are still welcomed back with no accountability. It also indicates the laziness of the GM not to try to dig up a different option. I would have rather seen the Mets move on.
Who are the players since Alderson has been in charge who left the org/released and came back?
Nieuwenhuis
Verrett
Hefner
Quintanilla
Feliciano
Kirkkk hit that big double in the 9th on Monday — but only after failing, twice, to bunt Cuddyer over to second. On the second attempt, he missed the ball completely.
Kirkkk can be good in spurts. Brief ones. That 9th inning might have been it.
Too bad that Omar didn’t leave Sandy any hitters to go with deGrom, Matz, Harvey, Familia, Mejia, etc. I mean, yes, there was Wright and Reyes and Beltran, plus Murphy and Duda and Lagares and Tejada and Flores, but not really much.
Five years of inactivity. Every once in a while he spends some money, poorly. That’s it.

A serious request.
From now on, can you put another “k” at the end of Kirk’s name? I know it’s not in any way, shape or form what you mean but it’s my own personal hangup about having “KKK” in any form on the site. Maybe KKirKK, even? I’ll leave it up to your discretion.
Thanks,
Brian
Ha, okay.
How’s this . . . Kirkkkkk?
The platinum sombrero is better anyway, right? Either way, thank you.
Due to their financial restrictions, you would have thought the Mets would be aggressive in their player development.Plawecki is the only. SA draftee as far as everyday players go, who has made any kind of impact thus far.
