What a week! Jason Vargas and Steven Matz can't escape the first inning. Jacob deGrom is struggling. Our rotation ERA is over five and our relievers are getting worked. Extra innings didn't help. Matz, who had looked great, again implodes any time a teammate makes an error or an umpire makes a bad call. Noah [...]
We've now faced every team in the NL East. The scariest bat is Anthony Rendon. I just can't root against Curtis Granderson, even in another uniform. The Phillies look legit. The Braves have holes. The Nats need bullpen help desperately.
You can't win 'em all, but this one was a real clunker. The high following the Monday night nail biter win was short-lived as the wheels came off in Philly on Tuesday. Starter Steven Matz gave the team no chance, coughing up eight runs in the first inning without retiring an out. The defense did [...]
The signing of free agent Jed Lowrie made a lot of sense in terms of adding a good switch hitter who could slot in to the two hole in the lineup. However, despite his versatility, he joins a crowded Mets infield and his arrival - likely in a few weeks - will have a ripple [...]
It's still quite early in the season but there are a few Mets who've gotten off to rough starts. Of Brandon Nimmo, Robert Gsellman, and Zack Wheeler who do you think will break out first?
This was a tale of three stories. First, it was Noah Syndergaard in cruise control, efficiently shutting down the Twins for seven innings. Then it was the Mets capitalizing on some terrible pitching to score six runs in the fifth inning courtesy of six walks and a hit batter by Twins pitchers. Lastly, it was [...]
After watching the 2018 Mets start the season like a house on fire only to watch the season go off the rails, faithful fans are careful not to get excited about early success. We won the first two games of the season because we always do (or at least seemingly) and swept the Marlins on [...]
Jacob deGrom was absolutely masterful last night. 7 innings, no runs, 2 hits, 14 Ks and he hit a home run too. In two starts, he's allowed zero runs and struck out 24 in 13 innings. Before the young season started, I predicted a back-to-back Cy Young award. I stand by it.
In a match up between hard-throwing number two starters Noah Syndergaard and Stephen Strasburg, it was the bullpens that determined the outcome of this game. The Mets relievers were mostly up to the task, but the Nats' couldn't get anyone out as the Mets tallied seven runs in the last two innings to turn a [...]
Some things about the coming season are obvious. The National League will be competitive. The American League is mostly predestined. The Marlins and half of the American League will be terrible. Injuries and breakout seasons make it harder to predict the rest, from who will make the playoffs and advance to which players will take home [...]
Play ball! Opening day is here at last. Too bad it's not a national holiday so we could all be home from work watching the game on TV. Let's go Mets!
What has three catchers, 10 infielders, and a roster full of players in flux? The New York Mets. Depth is a nice problem to have but it comes with its own set of challenges for Mets' second year skipper Mickey Callaway. Last season, in his rookie year, Callaway had a bumpy ride getting used to [...]
