In case you haven’t met him, here’s Logan’s Twitter Account: @lverrett4

The Mets drafted Verrett back in the 4th round of the 2011 draft.   Verrett’s stuff… is and was average.  He throws in the high 80s and low 90s and he has been known to top at 95.  Nothing to sneeze at and nothing to write home about.  His arm action got high marks as being easily repeatable and that should translate into stamina and dependability.

His breaking pitches are what set him apart.  He throws a changeup and a slider that grade out as average but dependable.  Being able to throw breaking pitches for strikes was supposed to give him immediate success in the lower levels of the minors.

The results have been exactly that!

Only 9 walks in 50.2 innings and 52 Ks indicate that Logan Verrett has proven the predicition to be correct.  His more recent start was one of his best: 9.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk and 7 Ks.

Port St. Lucie awaits Logan Verrett in 2013 and when he reaches that stage it’s likely that he’ll begin to stumble a little more.  We won’t worry about that quite yet and we’ll simply enjoy his success in Savannah.

Around The Minors:

AAA:

Chris Schwinden Returns – The Mets lucked into reclaiming Chris Schwinden.  Schwinden is a good insurance policy for the Met rotation moving forward.

AA:

The Wilmer Flores Express Is Not Slowing Down – He’s up in AA and hitting like crazy.  I’m trying to not get too excited but it’s getting harder and harder.

Zack Wheeler’s Complete Game – 9 Innings, 6 Hits, 1 Walk and 7 Ks… wait… that sounds familiar.

Cory Mazzoni Succeeding in AA – He’s got 2 scoreless outings in a row and though his Ks have taken a hit 7 hits in 14 innings is nothing to sneeze at.

A+:

Cory Vaughn Still Hot Hot Hot – In the last 10 games his OPS is 1.194 and his batting average for the year is up to .242.  He’ll get cold again, but if the ht streaks start lasting as long as the cold ones he’ll be relevant.

Rafael Montero’s Best Port St. Lucie Start – 6 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks and 8 Ks.  NICE!

R, Brooklyn:

Brandon Nimmo Does More Than Walk – Sure, his strikeout rate is on the rise but so is his batting average, on base percentage and slugging.

Luis Mateo is CRAZY GOOD – He’s pitched 30.2 innings for Brooklyn.  He’s only given up 15 hits and 3 walks while striking out 38.  That isn’t JUST good.

Rainy Lara Turning Heads – His stats aren’t Mateo’s but he’s got 31 Ks in 21.2 innings.

R, Kingsport:

Tomas Nido Makes An Impression Early – It’s only 27 at bats but he’s hitting and showing power.

So THIS Is Steven Matz… – 6 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks and 6 Ks.  We were pretty psyched he was healthy.  How much more excited should we be that he pitched that well?

R, DSL Mets:

Manuel Hilario And Adrian Abreu Intrigue Me – Both listed as catchers.  They have a combined 28 SBs and a good smattering of power.

Vicente Lupo Has A Good Bat – 18 extra base hits in 33 games and is hitting .355 on the year.

Matz has now made four starts for KPT. In 17 IP he’s allowed 12 hits, 10 runs (5 ER), 1 HR, 11 BB and 17 Ks. Hopefully he can add a few more starts like the one you mentioned above and get back on the prospect track.
