The 2013 Arizona Fall League is now over and the Surprise Saguaros have won the league’s title. The Scottsdale Scorpions finished with the worst record in the two-division league going 10-21 with a .323 winning percentage.

The Scorpions were assembled from the rosters of the Atlanta Braves, the San Francisco Giants, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the New York Yankees, and the New York Mets.

The Mets contributed seven players to the Scottsdale squad:

Chasen Bradford (pitcher): He stands 6’1″ and weighs 185 lbs. He is 24 years old. He throws and bats right-handed. He is not listed in the top twenty prospects for the team according to Major League Baseball. In the minors this year, he went 9-3 with a 2.61 ERA. He pitched in 50 games. He threw 69.0 innings and earned four saves. He struck out 61 and walked 17.

In Arizona, he went 2-0 with 0.00 ERA. He pitched in 10 games. He threw 11.2 innings and earned one save. He struck out 10 and walked only one batter.

Jeurys FamiliaJeurys Familia (pitcher): He stands 6’4″ and weighs 230 lbs. He is 24 years old. He throws and bats right-handed. He is currently listed as the team’s 11th best prospect according to Major League Baseball. His innings were limited this year because of bone spurs in his right pitching elbow. MLB.com says “his lack of command and a consistent third pitch” means a relief role makes “the most sense, with the potential to be a future closer”. In the minors this year, he went 0-1 with a 1.00 ERA. He pitched in eight games with two game starts and one save. He threw nine innings. He struck out seven and walked three. In the majors, for the Mets, he went 0-0 with a 4.22 ERA. He pitched in nine games and earned one save. He threw 10.2 innings. He struck out eight and walked nine.

In Scottsdale, he went 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA. He appeared in eight games. He threw a little over eight innings. He struck out 11 and walked four. Familia was the only Met to make this year’s AFL Eastern Division All-Star Roster.

Hansel Robles (pitcher): He stands 5’11” and weighs 185 lbs. He is 23 years old. He throws and bats right-handed. He is not listed in the top twenty prospects for the team according to Major League Baseball. In the minors this year, he went 5-5 with a 3.78 ERA. He pitched in 18 games including 17 game starts. He threw 95.1 innings. He struck out 71 and walked 31.

In Scottsdale, he went 0-2 with a 4.00 ERA. He appeared in six games and started all six. He threw a total of 18.0 innings. He struck out 19 and walked only five.

Cody Satterwhite (pitcher): He stands 6’4″ and weighs 205 lbs. He is 26 years old. He throws and bats right-handed. He is not listed in the top twenty prospects for the team according to Major League Baseball. He is working his way back from a career derailed by injuries. Prior to his injuries, he was a former top prospect in the Detroit Tiger organization. He was originally drafted but not signed by the Cleveland Indians and has also pitched for Team USA in the Pan American Games. In the minors this year, he went 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA. He appeared in 16 games and threw 22.2 innings. He struck out 23 and walked 13.

At Scottsdale, he went 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA. He appeared in 11 games and earned one save. He threw 13.0 innings. He struck out 13 and walked four batters.

Cam Maron (catcher): He stands 6’1″ and weighs 175 lbs. He is 22 years old. He throws right-handed and bats left-handed. He is not listed in the top twenty prospects for the team according to Major League Baseball. In the minors last season, Maron appeared in 84 games. He accrued 285 ABs and had 67 hits. He didn’t hit any HRs but knocked in 29 RBIs. His slash line was .235/.327/.295.

In Scottsdale, Maron appeared in 17 games and had 51 ABs. He had 11 hits, and one RBI. His slash line was .216/.365/.255.

Aderlin Rodriguez (infielder): He stands 6’3″ and weighs 210 lbs. He is 22 years old. He throws and bats right-handed. He is not listed in the top twenty prospects for the team according to Major League Baseball. In the minors this year. Rodriguez appeared in 62 games and had 246 ABs. He had 64 hits including nine HRs. He had 41 RBIs. His slash line was .260/.295/.427.

In Scottsdale, he appeared in 19 games and had 72 ABs. He had 14 hits with no HRs and three RBIs. His slash line was .194/205/.222.

Cory Vaughn (outfielder): He stands 6’3″ and weighs 225 lbs. He is 24 years old. He throws and bats right-handed. He is not listed in the top twenty prospects for the team according to Major League Baseball. He is the son of former major-league player, Greg Vaughn. He was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2007 but did not sign. The Mets drafted and successfully signed him in 2010. In the minors this year, Vaughn appeared in 92 games and had 330 ABs. He had 83 hits including 10 HRs. He had 54 RBIs. His slash line was .252/.348/.400.

In Scottsdale, Vaughn appeared in 22 games. He had 88 ABs. He had 22 hits with one HR and 9 RBIs. His slash line was .250/.320/.375. Vaughn was nominated for the league’s Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award; this award recognizes a player with outstanding personal characteristics. It is given to a player who displays unselfishness, hard work, and leadership. Although he didn’t win it, he was only one of six players nominated for this. An interesting tidbit to note here is that the player who did win it was Garin Cecchini (Boston Red Sox) who is the brother of the Mets prospect, Gavin Cecchini.

The following Mets will be playing in Winter Ball in Mexico: Octavio Acosta, Marco Camarena, Xorge Carillo, and Juan Carlos Gamboa.

The following Mets will be playing in Venezuela: Justin Hampson, Millar Diaz, Luis Rengel, Albert Cordero, and Wilfredo Tovar (keep your eyes on him!).

    Robles was booted from the 40 man for Chris Young. I’m guessing that’s the last we’re going to hear about him for a long time.

    Robles cleared waivers but Vaughn was removed from the forty man roster. Not sure of his status yet.

      Vaughn was never on the 40 man roster to begin with. He was left unprotected though so he eligible for the rule 5 draft.
