2014 BOWMAN CHROME L.J. MAZZILLI
Valotte. One Headlight. That Ziggy Marley song– you know, “Da da da da da, don’t know your past, don’t know your future.” Tomorrow People! That’s it– Tomorrow People!
Julian Lennon. Jakob Dylan. Um, Ziggy Marley.
Pop music is littered with cautionary tales of the progeny of famous artists following in their parents’ sizable footsteps. More often than not, the end result is a treacly, watered-down version of the original.
Fortunately for L.J. Mazzilli, he’s not sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar; he’s playing baseball, where the Ripkens and the Griffeys and the Bondseses prove that youth will sometimes be served.
Mazzilli split time between Savannah and St. Lucie last year, and put up a slash line that would make dad Lee Mazzilli proud: .301/.361/.440.
Fun “fact” that I’m too lazy to research at the moment: If Maz the Younger can reach the majors with the Mets, the Mazzillis will constitute the first father/son duo to make their respective big-league debuts as Mets…
And the members of Wilson-Phillips wonder how many cupcakes they have to eat to get noticed…
Darryl Strawberry’s kid tried to make it as a basketball player. I lost track of him after he played at Maryland. Perhaps he’s playing overseas now. I always wondered if he ever showed any baseball aptitude or if he figured he was better off going in another direction.

That’s a pretty detailed transactions-like page! Glad he made it in the NBA and hope he enjoys his new life in Turkey.
This may have been my favorite post and comments section ever.
