Here at Card of the Week central, we’re soaking our shoulders from having shoveled six inches of new-fallen powder this morning.
But winter be damned, the calendar is telling us that pitchers and catchers report to Port St. Lucie tomorrow, so what better way to kick off the season than with a new Mystery Met contest…
First person to identify this dude with the Alex DeLarge eyelashes wins the selfsame 2015 Dilson Herrera rainbow rookie that was featured in last week’s column.
Mark Babcock?
I meant Bomback
“Babcock” is actually a rather apt metaphor, since he does resemble a porn star from the 70’s.
You may remember that the Rangers actually had a pitcher named “Bob Babcock”, who I don’t think looked quite as porny as #10 does here:

Gus looks like a lefty pitcher from his stance. I think Bomback was a righty. Thought I think you’re in the right time frame.
Is this the rarely-seen Mac Scarce?
How about Bill Greif?

Greif never pitched for the Mets and had black hair. He pitched eight innings for Tidewater.
Paul Siebert
I think Seth has it. That’s not a lefty; the pitcher is in a post-throwing pose, not a pre-windup, and thus he’s a righty. And the sleepy eyes definitely look like Greif to me.
(After not making the team in Spring Training of 1978, Greif made 3 appearances for Tidewater and retired. Here’s that awesome 1978 staff, as of Opening Day:
Rotation: Jerry Koosman, Nino Espinosa, Pat Zachry, Mike Bruhert, Craig Swan
Bullpen: Paul Siebert, Bob Myrick, Mardie Cornejo, Butch Metzger
Relief Ace: Skip Lockwood
[Disabled List: Bob Apodaca]
Yeesh. After losing out to the likes of Bruhert, Siebert, and Cornejo, it’s a wonder Bill even showed up in AAA.)
Looks a little like Harvey.
Seth is indeed correct! I gave y’all some Greif.
Greif was the de facto ace of the Padres staff back in ’73 and ’74. He went 10-17 in ’73 with a thoroughly decent 3.21 ERA. Pitched three shutouts that season, including one against the Mets on June 1.
Seth, please send your address to [email protected] and I’ll get your card in the mail.
Congrats Seth!
I thought this face looked familiar and I’m guessing I remember some of his mid-70s Padres cards. Had no idea he had Mets ties.
