“It’s like taking a big league guy and throwing him against a rookie ball team,” a Pacific Coast League talent evaluator said. “He just dominates every night he goes out.
“He’s done everything he’s supposed to do at Triple-A, and it’s a lot easier to evaluate a pitcher in this league, because if they are as good as Matz is in the Pacific Coast League, he is pretty damn good. They don’t hit the ball against him.”

So it seems that we should agonize less over the concept of the six-man rotation and more over the six men in that rotation…
If the Mets are serious about staying in first place then Sandy needs to make room in the rotation for Matz. Sometime in June the Super 2 gets passed and he should be promoted then. I would not worry about the veteran that gets bumped from the rotation. That is what trades are for. I am very curious to see how Sandy handles the next two months.
The fewest Triple-A innings by any pitcher brought up by Alderson with the Mets is the 101.2 by Wheeler over parts of two seasons. Matz currently has 68.1 IP at Las Vegas. I figure he has at least five more starts before he comes up.
That sounds about right. It gives him the time to bide to clear super 2 and see if this 6 man thinggy works at all. It also is a time window to see if Gee and Niese can right the ship. They must both feel the heat given Matz’ accomplishments and that this 6 man rotation wont last long term.
This gives reason for prediction…makes sense.
I am hoping he gets called up. We would have the best young arms in the game.
We’ve got guys who should move to the bullpen.
Exactly! Mid-June and the Super-2 deadline will be here very soon, and hopefully, Gee and/or Niese will have a couple of good starts, making at least one of them tradable, with Matz brought up. Are we talking about four number ones in our rotation?!
I’m hoping the 6-man strategy is a short term time bider until at least one of Gee/Niese/Colon gets injured or traded.
