Wow, what a night it was for Giants rookie Chris Heston. The young righty had two hits and drove in two runs as he dominated the Mets offense the entire night, and held them to zero hits. San Francisco took the first game of the series 5-0.
- Noah Syndergaard struggled tonight, going six innings, allowing 10 hits, four runs, and only struck out two hitters. Growing pains are expected, but the Giants hit Syndergaard pretty well tonight.
- Heston threw a no-hitter and struck out 11 Mets, and struck out the side in the ninth inning.
- Joe Panik hit a home run off Dillon Gee, as Gee pitched 1.2 innings of relief.
- Sean Gilmartin pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The dismal offense will get help on the way, as Travis d’Arnaud should be making his way to Citi Field sometime this week. Matt Harvey will face Tim Hudson tomorrow, as the Mets look to tie up the series.
Only if Harvey no hits them back will I get over this.
A new low.

The joys of being a met fan….!
Down 3 key bats to injury, cleanup hitter mired in a slump. Bench players stink.
That sums it up. But, three strikeouts looking in the ninth? When will the light bulb turn on in that dugout?
Some of those calls looked to favor the pitcher, but I agree TexasGusCC; the hitters should have been swinging when they got up. At least make the defenders sweat a little bit!
Sucks to get no hit, and this was no accident given the state of the offense. But I’m more worried about 20 hits in the last 10 IP for Syndy. Not fooling anyone…
Velocity will provide some forgiveness for mistakes, but it’s not everything.
If you want to know about a Pitcher, watch the Hitters, not the Radar Gun!..
– what do their swings look like?
– do they look “Uncomfortable”, confused or defensive
– Is the pitcher establishing Pitcher’s Counts?… 0-1…0-2….1-2
– Swings and Misses
Bobby Parnell ( when he came up) was throwing 100mph and hitters looked comfortable…. that’s a direct comparison of the concept.
Syndy has good stuff…a Great Arm…. hitters don’t look uncomfortable as they do with deGrom and Harvey— and that’s the step he needs to use his “stuff” as a Pitcher…it’s a big step…. and he needs to take his knocks as he’s learning it…and it can only be learned at the MLB level.
Well the good news is that Parnell will be making his triumphant return to the big club, 14 ERA and all.
