In just a matter of days, the “best” of the National League will be taking on the “best” of the American League in the Queen’s City to decide which league gets Home Field Advantage in the 2015 World Series. While the idea of the Major League Baseball All Star Game desperately needs to be reformatted, it is what it is, for now. So far on the rosters for All Stars, there is just one New York Met: Jacob deGrom. deGrom has had a phenomenal sophomore year this season, and clearly deserves to be in Cincinnati to help gain home field advantage for the National League; but there should be another Met on that roster: Jeurys Familia. For some reason, Familia was left off of Bruce Bochy’s National League All Star roster, but he still has a chance to make the team. Familia is one of the Final Vote candidates, which means fans have until tomorrow to vote him into the All Star Game. In order to push Familia onto the roster, the Mets have teamed up with the Twins to get both of their players on a plane ride to Cincinnati (Brian Dozier is the Twin’s middle infielder and is a candidate for the American Leagues’ Final Vote). Both these players have had All Star worthy seasons and deserve to be at the game this year.
At the beginning of the season, Familia jas neem the Mets’ closer due to Bobby Parnell’s rehab from Tommy John’s Surgery and Jennry Mejia’s suspension/injury. Since taking over, Familia has locked down 24 of his 26 save chances, and has a 1.13 ERA. Familia is one of the biggest breakout stars of the season, and is a well known name all around baseball. By far the best closer in the NL East, it is mind boggling that Jonathan Papelbon was chosen to play in the game over Familia! As of the latest standings, Familia is dead last in the voting, trailing Johnny Cueto, Troy Tulowitzki, Clayton Kershaw, and Carlos Martinez (in that order). Therefore, it is extremely important for fans to #votefamilia into the All Star Game. It will require a lot of work. Each fan gets 35 votes per email, so make sure that you vote; you get your friends, family, enemies, etc. to vote; and maybe even open up another email or two…or eight…and use every vote you can get in order to send Familia to the game.
Playing in Minnesota, Dozier does not have the publicity that Familia has, but he certainly is just as worthy as Familia for a chance to play in this year’s All Star Game. Based on the latest rankings, Dozier is in second place, trailing only Mike Moustakas as the leading vote getter for the American League final vote. Dozier is currently hitting .260 with 18 home runs and 45 RBI’s and has made only three errors in 84 games this season. Winning the vote would send Dozier to his first ever All Star Game, and there are sure to be more to come. Therefore, make sure you and your friends #votedozier to the All Star Game because if you don’t … it might go to the Yankee’s Brett Gardner … and nobody needs to see another Yankee play in the All Star Game!
With Kershaw leading to vote in the National League for the final spot for the All Star Game, the chances of Familia making the roster seem slim to none. However, the vote is not over yet, and weirder things have happened than Familia making a late comeback and joining the All Star Team. Dozier, on the other hand, is not as far off from winning the final spot on the American League’s roster, so Mets fans should vote for him as well as Familia. Remember, you get 35 total votes per email address, so put them to good use! Click on the link below and remember to vote #metroplitwins!
Gardner is a great player, so I’m not ashamed to say I voted for him previously. However, I do like Dozier a lot, so I will probably throw another few votes his way. Familia is a dead duck sadly as he doesn’t have the recognition of anyone else in the NL bracket. After all, he only plays in the biggest market in the world!!!
The Final Vote is really a sham, especially with so many pitchers on the vote for the NL.
If Cueto wins, it’s a vote for nothing, because he pitches Sunday and would have to be replaced anyways. Max Scherzer is the other SP who also goes Sunday and have to be replaced. Kershaw and Martinez will likely be the replacements for those two.
And if any of the other pitchers feel “sore” or their team doesn’t want them to play and fakes an injury, you’d bet that Familia would be the first choice to replace the “injured” pitcher. Same for Tulo and the position players.
It’s not inconceivable that all the players on the NL Final Vote end up making the All star team.
Dee Gordon out. Tulo in.
Scherzer pitches tomorrow and gets replaced by Cueto, who also gets replaced by Kershaw.
Just need 1 more injury to allow Familia and the sham is complete.
I don’t know why Bochy didn’t try to manipulate the system and pick Cueto and Kershaw, especially since the game is being played at Cincinnati…
I guess he doesn’t care about Reds fans.
