The Mets blew the Marlins out of the water early on, as the offense provided plenty of runs for Bartolo Colon, and the veteran earned his 10th win of the season.
- Michael Conforto hit his first major league homer, which provided three runs in the second inning. Batting Conforto eighth should enable him to get some opportunities to drive in runs, and he took advantage of the situation tonight. He finished the game going 2-4 with a walk and three runs.
- Yoenis Cespedes showed why he was brought over, as he hit three doubles and drove in four runs. His presence in the middle of the lineup provides the Mets with much needed power.
- Curtis Granderson also had a great game, going 3-5, scoring two runs and driving in two.
- Travis d’Arnaud also had a multi-hit game, going 2-5 with a run scored.
- Colon had a great start tonight, pitching eight innings while allowing one run. If the Mets can get Colon to produce quality starts, then this rotation is pretty intimidating moving forward.
Jon Niese will take the mound for the Mets, as he will be facing Brad Hand tomorrow night.
Who are these Mets?
Cespedes has ruined this team!!!
J/K
The Mets went 8-8 in the tough stretch versus contenders right after the break and now it’s time to make hay against the teams that aren’t division leaders.
Monday night was a great start
Last nights A Z – D C loss was a real “Highway to Hell” for the Nationals.
Colon pitched 8 innings of 1 run ball in the victory. Colon addressed his doubters after the game by stating (through an interpretor), “they can take the thier sore thumb and stick it up their ass”. 🙂
If the Mets can come up with the money then they should put it toward Cespedes. He will be 30 and is a five tool offensive machine that can play a premier defensive position, center field. They have to sign him before the end of the World Series or he has to be released. Then the Mets couldn’t sign him until May 15th. It wouldn’t hurt to at least open dialogue.
Tonight they go for 5 in a row! Look who is chasing who now!
The talking heads on TV have mentioned Cespedes’ unusual contract. So he needs to be signed before the end of the WS? What if the Mets are IN the World Series?
I 100% agree – I wasn’t familiar with his game but what’s not to love so far? He does seem like a 5 tool player. Aggressive and smart. His taking home last night was hard-nosed, although I held my breath after the collision. He did seem to coast on the DP he hit into, but at that point in the game, that’s all right.
Speaking of hustling, what about Grandy? He has got to be inspiring that team with the way he’s always in 4th gear.
