It’s important to remember that things can always get worse. After two depressing losses the Mets laid over for the sweep by the lowly Braves, getting shut out 6-0 in the process on Sunday.
It was Prostate Awareness day at the ballpark and it seemed like the Mets played with their thumbs inserted rectally all game.
They were limited to one hit, a third inning single by Michael Conforto. No other runner reached base.
There’s nothing good to say. After a day off to lick their wounds, the Mets host the Royals in a two-game series.
They saved the best for last.
How can thing get worse, sweept by the worse team in baseball! Royals and Nationals are up next! How can things get worse?
Not sure the cavalry is coming to save them this year. They’re just going to have to play better, period.
The fact that they are still in the WC hunt is fools gold— convincing them to wait and ride out to the trade deadline
They need substantial refitting…. Now
Hey, the only place to go from here is up. Right?….
Sorry Rob, were still above .500 for the moment…theres plenty of room to go!
I am in the “they need to play better” camp. Yes, sure, there’s some internal options. Minor changes. But I do not want to squander some of the team’s limited resources (Wheeler) just for the long shot of reaching Game 163 and Clayton Kershaw. I don’t think they are in a position, with the currently below-average farm system, the pursue more overall net-loss moves for (uncertain) short-term gain.
Essentially, the message to the team: Show me something. Then, maybe, we make a late-July move.
At same time, maybe we’ll be sellers. A club needs a Granderson? A Bastardo? We’ll answer the phone.
I don’t think Sandy has the resources the trade himself out of this mess. They are going to have to turn it around the old-fashioned way. Hit by hit, pitch by pitch. Or it will be a lost season.
sad predicament for the defending NL Champs, and supposedly at the *start* of a run.
Bastardo contract terrible
de Aza contract terrible
Major issues with bull pen
no one at 1B
no one at 3B
no one at C
no leader of the team
lost season a genuine possibility…and its not even July
Chris, I agree with your last point: No leader. There is a Greek saying with regard to ships, which Greece has many: “A good captain is evident during a storm.”
A more obvious shortcoming is on the stat sheet. While yes they have had injuries, they also had opportunities that were squandered.
Remind me who wrote “homeruns aren’t easy to get all the time”. Exactly.
Why have we been saying this since April and the Mets noticed in mid-June? Did they really expect to hit 500 homers as a team? Unfortunately, that’s your #1 problem.

From your lips to gods (Sandy Alderson) ears on that one.
A few Nights ago, we had Reynolds-DeAza–Kelly as Pinch Hitters… .220/.171/.174. The Starting Catcher was either Plawecki or Riveira— .198/.154
I believe Plaw will hit…someday! I believe Reveira can’t Hit. DeAza is lost… Kelly can’t hit… Reynolds is Highly Suspect—I believe he’s a AAAA. Kelly?— 1 long home run, but he looks “cooked” to me
That’s a lot of “Can’t Play Better” guys!!!
They need another 2 Major League Players on this Roster Immediately! d’Arnaud is 1. Get Dilson here and Move Flores around—improves 1b, your bench, and team speed.
They are the next 3-4 series away from a major Hole.
No speed on this team at all. That is why they get mired in such long offensive droughts. They are relying too much on the three-run Homer for offense. They also don’t seem to be able to execute situational hitting, especially with runners on base. It’s extra base hit or bust right now. I’d love to see a hint of small ball once in a while.
The Mets reached the nadir with this loss.Hopefully there is no place to go from here but up.
