The underlying theme of the night for the Mets was errors and miscues, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The game started out with a slow dribbler to J.D. Davis, who was unable to handle the ball against a speedy Lorenzo Cain. Cain later scored on a throwing error by Pete Alonso, in which Jeff McNeil was playing way out of position, coming in from left field to field a throw at second base. Noah Syndergaard was also off his mark throughout the night, as he only managed to last five innings, giving up five earned runs in the process. His season ERA is now 6.35.

The Mets, who were down six runs to one entering the seventh inning, made things interesting starting with an Amed Rosario opposite field home run. After a Travis d’Arnaud baserunning gaffe, the Mets put two on for Pete Alonso, who blasted his seventh home run in the seventh inning or later on the season to pull the Mets within a run. Unfortunately, the Brewers put two more on the board to start the eighth, courtesy of Jeurys Familia, which put the game just out of reach.

After scoring another run in the bottom on the eighth and rallying with two runners on, the Brewers brought in Josh Hader who easily retired the final six batters, striking out five of them. Edwin Diaz did pitch a lights out ninth inning of his own.

My Gut Reaction is that the Mets offense is the real deal, and if they can manage to bring either their pitching or defense above par then they will win games again. Rosario showed offensive firepower today that will keep him in the majors, however in my opinion he should be on a short leash and sent down to Triple-A if the bat slows down. The Mets will take on Gio Gonzalez tomorrow in the final game of the series.

My gut reaction is that as much as I like Callaway, I’m afraid he’s lost the team. Their play is terrible and the players don’t have a clue. Yes it’s early, but the mental gaffes are adding up and that usually is a sign of lack of inspiration. Not that I want to see Riggleman – no way! – but in order to get this team on a good track there is a need for a real leader while it’s still early.

The Mets against Hader in the eighth inning took nine swings. There were no called strikes, but rather nine swings and two of them connected for foul balls. Disgraceful and I don’t care about his 18.00 K/9. First and second and no outs, Callaway feigns Ramos then switches for Frazier at the last second? For what? You had the guy on deck for ten minutes and pull him the last second? Well, they both struck out anyway, followed by McNeil. Why not pinch hit for McNeil? Is Frazier really better than TDA, the guy he replaced? Maybe I just hate Frazier too much, but he doesn’t give me any hope. I’d have preferred Lagares there, since Ramos was held back for… some good reason.

Dallas Keuchel. We need help. End of story.

If he’s signed today, you still won’t see him until June.

After giving up three stolen bases and a passed ball, Travis d’Arnaud was designated for assignment this morning. Thomas Nido called up as his replacement.

Devin Mesoraco has still not reported to Syracuse.

The biggest mistake was tendering him a contract at all. Id rather have had Ramos and Mesoraco by a mile. TdA just a long line of should-a could-a would-a. Mostly he’s a lazy behind the plate catcher, that doest not command a game, has a terrible arm, and occasional glimpses of being a hitter. What BVW saw in his chances to return, commit 3.5M$, and then let him walk without limiting the financial damage is shockingly bad management. This was as predictable as the tides, which most of us predicted.

        Right on Chris.

Add in that TDA’s game calling has been questioned twice before yesterday already this year, and he barely plays!
