Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 4:18 pm
START 7/6 CHATTER
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:08 pm
Does WGN show Cubs games anymore? They moved from 13 to 98 on my cable system and I never go that high on my channel surfing.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:10 pm
Wearing the Los Mets jerseys tonight.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:13 pm
Reed Johnson?
July 6, 2012 – 7:14 pm
The WGN on my cable isn’t showing it tonight
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:15 pm
I don’t think they showed any of the series at Wrigley, either.
July 6, 2012 – 7:16 pm
Just missed Johnson. Tough to be behind on 2 pitches!
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:16 pm
He crushed it, too.
July 6, 2012 – 7:16 pm
From the way cohen was calling it, it didn’t seem that way
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:17 pm
Murphy would have had it.
July 6, 2012 – 7:17 pm
murphy would have made that?
July 6, 2012 – 7:17 pm
you beat me to it
July 6, 2012 – 7:18 pm
Any of you guys like a Soriano-Bay +some other pieces swap?
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:18 pm
Rizzo busted out of the batter’s box. I don’t think any 2B could have made that play once Santana deflected it.
July 6, 2012 – 7:18 pm
No – No – No
July 6, 2012 – 7:18 pm
Brandon Phillips probably would have made that
July 6, 2012 – 7:19 pm
that guy is the king of trick plays
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:19 pm
I would entertain a Bay-Soriano deal but I wouldn’t take on any salary to do it.
July 6, 2012 – 7:20 pm
both of them have 2 years left?
July 6, 2012 – 7:21 pm
Bay has 2013 and a 2014 option
July 6, 2012 – 7:22 pm
Let’s see what these backup RH bats can do tonight
July 6, 2012 – 7:24 pm
The Mets RH platoon is actually competitive on paper, it is on the field itself that theyr’e no getting res[pect
July 6, 2012 – 7:26 pm
Brian. another fine article today and of course the one on Tejada early this week was good. ESPN Mets blog, Rubin had an interseting piece on Tejada today.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:27 pm
Thanks!
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:27 pm
New writer debuted today. Stephen’s going to write about the minors
July 6, 2012 – 7:28 pm
Enjoyed his piece as I see Rodriquez with the Gnats the last two years
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:28 pm
Hate when the Mets have these quick innings.
July 6, 2012 – 7:30 pm
Surprised to see Cedeno start. Do you think they are showcasing him for a trade? Quint can do his job and Cedeno would bring back something.
July 6, 2012 – 7:40 pm
Gordon of Dodgers out six weeks. Cedeno is available and LA bullpen is stocked!
July 6, 2012 – 7:41 pm
Just came back from eating and first thing i see is a duda HR
July 6, 2012 – 7:43 pm
I don’t think the Mets can afford to trade middle infielders, they need the depth
July 6, 2012 – 7:44 pm
I’d rather see the mets trade their surplus outfielders
July 6, 2012 – 7:46 pm
Quint is a poor man’s Cedeno, and Turner, although I like him, really doesn’t have a role. Murphy also could go especially with the way the FO loves Valdespin.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:46 pm
I think the start is all about resting the LHB versus the southpaw.
July 6, 2012 – 7:46 pm
But Murphy is so hot
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:47 pm
How was Duda’s HR?
July 6, 2012 – 7:48 pm
Well, Valdespin can’t play SS, and Turner can’t play for an extended time there anyways so if you trade Cedeno and Tejada and Quint both get hurt they’re screwed because i don’t think they have another SS at AAA
July 6, 2012 – 7:50 pm
Duda’s in the power alley in right in the MoZone. Solid
July 6, 2012 – 7:50 pm
They can’t carry Quint the whole year and they will lose him if they send him down
July 6, 2012 – 7:52 pm
Why can’t they carry Quint the whole year?
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:54 pm
Someone’s going to have to go among Cedeno, Quint and Turner when Bay and Baxter come back.
July 6, 2012 – 7:55 pm
i vote torres
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:55 pm
Also, I wouldn’t worry about trading Cedeno (or Quintanilla). We’ve already had the rash of SS injuries and odds are extremely against the same type of thing happening again.
July 6, 2012 – 7:56 pm
exactly Brian
July 6, 2012 – 7:57 pm
Torres is a fine RH platoon with Kirk
July 6, 2012 – 7:57 pm
but why deal from a position of relatively scarcity(can anyone enlighten me as to who they have left at AAA?), when you have a surplus of outfielders?
July 6, 2012 – 7:58 pm
The OF has very little value unless you trade Hairston because 2 AL teams have inquired about him
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:58 pm
Middle infielders – off the top of my head – Tejada, Murphy, Cedeno, Quint, Turner, Valdespin, Havens. That doesn’t seem to be a huge scarcity.
July 6, 2012 – 7:58 pm
The guy at AA has a ML glove also
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 7:59 pm
That was ugly, Sori
July 6, 2012 – 7:59 pm
@Metsense: i know no one has talked about this, but i wonder what torres could bring back? @Brian Joura: only 3/7 can actually play SS
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:00 pm
But what are the odds that your two primary guys both go down with LT injuries at the same time, given it’s already happened?
July 6, 2012 – 8:01 pm
I really don’t see Torres as a better CF for a team lacking one wheras Cedeno can field and is hitting better.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:01 pm
You want to prepare for likely scenarios but I just don’t see something that has less than 5% of a chance of happening trumps trading one of those guys for much-needed bullpen help, if that type of trade is out there.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:02 pm
Also, Turner and Valdespin can fake it at SS for brief stretches.
July 6, 2012 – 8:02 pm
Dee Gordon is out six weeks and the guy in SF (even though he came in 2nd place in allstar voting) could be replaced
July 6, 2012 – 8:03 pm
Well, if they do trade Cedeno, i want to see them get some decent bullpen guy
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:03 pm
New guy doesn’t do any better interviews than Kevin B.
July 6, 2012 – 8:04 pm
to be fair, the guy he interviews knows little to none about baseball
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:04 pm
true dat
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:04 pm
It’s like FOX has taken over SNY
July 6, 2012 – 8:06 pm
I’ve heard Broxton was on the trading block, although it seems like they are asking for a ML ready player. Even though he has declining numbers he could probably help this bullpen.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:06 pm
Cedeno!
July 6, 2012 – 8:06 pm
Well, that will help Cedeno’s trade value
July 6, 2012 – 8:08 pm
Not sure what KC is looking for. Very ambiguous.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:08 pm
They’ve got a lot of young offensive players. How about a SP?
July 6, 2012 – 8:08 pm
Just a thought, would Lutz for Broxton be too much? too little?
July 6, 2012 – 8:09 pm
right, nvm they have their future 3b
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:09 pm
It certainly wouldn’t be too much.
July 6, 2012 – 8:09 pm
Maybe too little
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:10 pm
It’s definitely too little
July 6, 2012 – 8:10 pm
but Valdespin for Broxton would probably be too much, right?
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:11 pm
I don’t know – that seems like a fair trade to me.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:12 pm
Talent-wise, that is.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:12 pm
The problem I see is that the Royals already have the guy Valdespin figures to be playing 2B for them.
July 6, 2012 – 8:14 pm
i know they have their future 1b/3b/CF/C , but i don’t about their 2b situation
July 6, 2012 – 8:14 pm
Hi all. What an amazing 9th last night.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:15 pm
Chris F shows up and the other team scores!
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:15 pm
test
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:16 pm
I kid Chris, I kid
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:16 pm
Back to the Royals, how about a Broxton-Gee trade?
July 6, 2012 – 8:17 pm
Good grief…and I root so hard!
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:17 pm
OH my Duda
July 6, 2012 – 8:17 pm
I would think that a cost-controlled young SP for a veteren bullpen guy is too much
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:18 pm
There is a lot to be said for being young and cost controlled.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:18 pm
There’s also a lot to be said for being good.
July 6, 2012 – 8:19 pm
I want to win this season, and i think Gee is still better than Batitsa/Hefner
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:20 pm
The average NL ERA this year is 3.98 and Gee has a 4.34 ERA
July 6, 2012 – 8:21 pm
I think that Gee has a low to mid 3 ERA in his past 8-10 starts though, he had a really bad 1st month if i remember correctly
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:22 pm
Starting in May, Gee has a 4.16 ERA
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:22 pm
In his last nine, it’s 3.38
July 6, 2012 – 8:22 pm
yea, that’s the stat i was referring to
July 6, 2012 – 8:24 pm
i was just checking gee’s stats and i just noticed he hadn’t had a scoreless start yet
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:24 pm
It’s not a choice of either Batista or Hefner. At this point I believe Matt Harvey could be called up.
July 6, 2012 – 8:25 pm
he could be, but i don’t think Alderson will bring him up before September
July 6, 2012 – 8:27 pm
I think Harvey is ready and I wouldn’t be surprised to see either Gee or Young traded.
July 6, 2012 – 8:28 pm
Nice to see Kirk lay off the junk
July 6, 2012 – 8:30 pm
I like your thinking on that .
July 6, 2012 – 8:31 pm
i really haven’t even thought about harvey about this until you mentioned him a couple minutes ago, and i would be absolutely shocked if they traded Gee or Young.
July 6, 2012 – 8:33 pm
scary
July 6, 2012 – 8:33 pm
Risky trade but if Harvey is ready then why wait when a young pitcher like Gee might have more value at the trade deadline than during the winter.
July 6, 2012 – 8:33 pm
i think santana’s done
July 6, 2012 – 8:37 pm
ugh
July 6, 2012 – 8:38 pm
Id say
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:39 pm
Double ugh
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:39 pm
“Mama told me there’d be days like these…”
July 6, 2012 – 8:40 pm
i think that foot/ankle is bothering him
July 6, 2012 – 8:40 pm
Some days you’re the dog some days you’re the hydrant.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:41 pm
I doubt that Alderson *wants* to trade Gee or Young but if it comes down to it…
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:42 pm
Here comes my favorite guy – Dan Warthen!
July 6, 2012 – 8:43 pm
i still think that the foot/ankle is bothering him, but we won’t know until after the game
July 6, 2012 – 8:44 pm
Its bigger than the obvious…we struggle terribly against NL C for some reason that escapes me
July 6, 2012 – 8:45 pm
actually, we struggle terribly against LHP
July 6, 2012 – 8:45 pm
and tonight they have a LHP
July 6, 2012 – 8:46 pm
For sure, but our record against NL C is sad
July 6, 2012 – 8:47 pm
when was the last time a mets pitcher was knocked out before the 6th?
July 6, 2012 – 8:49 pm
Ramon needs to step it up
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:50 pm
6/26 – Gee went 5.0 IP
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:53 pm
OK Ruben, start us off
July 6, 2012 – 8:53 pm
Gonna be a hard climb up tonight
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 8:55 pm
I didn’t like the two-strike call but I”m not sure what he was looking at with that one.
July 6, 2012 – 9:03 pm
Cedeno can’t make that play
July 6, 2012 – 9:04 pm
Another met killer in the making
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:04 pm
Murphy would have
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:04 pm
grin
July 6, 2012 – 9:04 pm
Murphy made that play yesterday
July 6, 2012 – 9:04 pm
Agrees brian
July 6, 2012 – 9:05 pm
Bullpen help
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:06 pm
OK, let’s show a little more offense than we did last inning.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:10 pm
Well, it’s no time to be proud — we’ll take it
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:14 pm
NIce night for Turner with the bat. That’s his third hit
July 6, 2012 – 9:14 pm
we’ll take that as well
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:14 pm
We’ve got to get at least one run here
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:15 pm
Sorry Keith, all powder blue uniforms are ugly
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:16 pm
Nickeas got a run home, I guess we’re happy
July 6, 2012 – 9:19 pm
I liked the KC powder blues
July 6, 2012 – 9:19 pm
We can. Come back from 4
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:22 pm
Yes we can!
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:27 pm
OK JV – get on base
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:27 pm
You know you’re in trouble when you walk Valdespin
July 6, 2012 – 9:31 pm
just saw terry signal the white flag
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:31 pm
rats
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:44 pm
There was no reason for him to slide. He could have caught that without sliding.
July 6, 2012 – 9:44 pm
Well, game over
July 6, 2012 – 9:47 pm
Hello everybody. Was listening to the Mets radio broadcast while working out. Ugly.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:47 pm
Glad that one wasn’t hit to Duda.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:48 pm
Hey Robert – thanks for joining in! Wish we had a better game but maybe the Mets will surprise us again.
July 6, 2012 – 9:48 pm
Yes. Great comeback yesterday. I can go for the same type of ending.
July 6, 2012 – 9:49 pm
Heard Santana was keeping his slider and fastball up in the zone tonight.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:50 pm
Yeah, it was not pretty
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:51 pm
Maybe David will reward us for sticking through to the end with a big hit here.
July 6, 2012 – 9:51 pm
Hard to have a big hit when no one is on base and you’re down 5
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:52 pm
When did you turn into Chris F?
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 9:52 pm
Not the HR I was hoping for but a double is nice
July 6, 2012 – 9:53 pm
Since the game ended around 4 innings ago i guess
July 6, 2012 – 9:58 pm
I’m hurting in ERA and WHIP in my fantasy league. I started Santana tonight. The hole gets deeper.
July 6, 2012 – 10:02 pm
8-4 baby. They’re going to rally.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:02 pm
The problem with this game is that it won’t last long enough. We’ll catch up by the 12th inning
July 6, 2012 – 10:04 pm
Hey, I heard that Brian!
July 6, 2012 – 10:06 pm
We can get 4 on that pen. 2 out 9th inning heroics are coming!
July 6, 2012 – 10:06 pm
at least WAS is losing 5-1 in the 9th, so mets should stay 4.5 out
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:08 pm
I’m glad everyone’s coming back for our ninth inning rally!
July 6, 2012 – 10:09 pm
Braves were beating Philly when I last looked so that will tifghten
July 6, 2012 – 10:10 pm
Got my fingers crossed
July 6, 2012 – 10:12 pm
Braves beat the Phils 5-0.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:12 pm
Can’t complain about the Mets’ pen tonight — 1 ER in 4.1 IP
July 6, 2012 – 10:12 pm
Let’s hope Marmol walks the bases loaded.
July 6, 2012 – 10:14 pm
and then someone unloads the bases
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:14 pm
25 BB in 24.2 IP – wow
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:15 pm
REally?
July 6, 2012 – 10:15 pm
someone wants to get home quickly
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:16 pm
And we’re not getting a replay?
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:16 pm
JV!
July 6, 2012 – 10:16 pm
all we needed was 3 men on base before that and we would have been set
July 6, 2012 – 10:18 pm
What happened? I’m on break
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:18 pm
VAldespin homered
July 6, 2012 – 10:19 pm
Front Office loves Valdespin. Probably have inside track at 2B in 2013. Maybe sooner?
July 6, 2012 – 10:19 pm
I just got batistas k!
July 6, 2012 – 10:19 pm
what makes you think that they love him?
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:20 pm
They keep calling him back up – someone likes him whether it’s Alderson or Collins
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:21 pm
All right Murphy – keep it going
July 6, 2012 – 10:21 pm
But usually, with someone you like you don’t keep sending them up and down and up and down, would you do that with Harvey?
July 6, 2012 – 10:21 pm
The big guns up for the Mets.
July 6, 2012 – 10:21 pm
but lets focus on the 9th
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:21 pm
I don’t think you can compare a position player and a pitcher in that situation.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:22 pm
That wasn’t close to being a strike – don’t know what he’s complaining about.
July 6, 2012 – 10:22 pm
probably just frustrated
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:22 pm
woo-hoo!
July 6, 2012 – 10:23 pm
Because why cut a pitcher for no reason just to have him up. You would think a young guy would be better served in the minors playing
July 6, 2012 – 10:23 pm
Wright the tying run at the plate.
July 6, 2012 – 10:23 pm
Wow Go Davis Go
July 6, 2012 – 10:23 pm
you mean daviD
July 6, 2012 – 10:23 pm
David
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:23 pm
David sitting on first-pitch fastball?
July 6, 2012 – 10:24 pm
i think he is going to wait for a strike
July 6, 2012 – 10:24 pm
cuz marmol can’t throw a strike
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:24 pm
woops
July 6, 2012 – 10:25 pm
Hang another slider Marmol
July 6, 2012 – 10:25 pm
wow
July 6, 2012 – 10:25 pm
3-1 count.
July 6, 2012 – 10:25 pm
i think he’s going to take all the way
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:25 pm
Might have squeezed him on that one…
July 6, 2012 – 10:26 pm
How fun is this season
July 6, 2012 – 10:26 pm
Ike Davis will rip a double.
July 6, 2012 – 10:26 pm
you can’t blame the ump though, he’s been so wild
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:26 pm
I’m pulling for Ike but I would’ve let Hairston hit here.
July 6, 2012 – 10:27 pm
Probably a walk either way
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:27 pm
yes!
July 6, 2012 – 10:27 pm
yes!
July 6, 2012 – 10:27 pm
yes
July 6, 2012 – 10:28 pm
if only we had a real pitcher pitching the 8th we’d be tied
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:28 pm
Oh c’mon
July 6, 2012 – 10:28 pm
lucker
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:28 pm
What a tough way to lose
July 6, 2012 – 10:29 pm
great effort by the Mets.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:29 pm
I guess we can’t complain after last night but wow
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:29 pm
Well, another decision for Santana
July 6, 2012 – 10:29 pm
Thanks for the chat Brian. Goodnight everybody.
July 6, 2012 – 10:29 pm
That’s why you don’t bring in Batista unless you WANT to lose
July 6, 2012 – 10:29 pm
They never give up
July 6, 2012 – 10:30 pm
Thanks everyone. Enjoyed the chat
July 6, 2012 – 10:30 pm
Goodnight everybody. Thanks Brian.
Brian Joura
July 6, 2012 – 10:30 pm
Let’s get them tomorrow
July 6, 2012 – 10:31 pm
2 righties coming up next, let’s get them both
