Recently Jimmy Preller from 2 Guys Talking Mets Baseball invited me to do a Q&A and the results were posted this morning. Click here to read about being an armchair GM, thoughts on Shea Stadium, Sandy Alderson, baseball cards and a lot more, including my efforts to steer the conversation away from food.
Good interview.I have a copy of the 11983 Basball Abstract and James had a funny quote about Backman.Paraphrase,”Backman gets on base, which is a valuable skill. The Mets can’t afford to kick him in the head because he plays 2nd Base about as well as Tip O’Neill.”What he got wrong was in basically predicting the Mets had no future. In fact,Strawberry would be up that very season and drafts and Trades would make the Mets practically the team on the 80’s.Damn,they really should have won the WS in 1988.
Thanks Steevy!
Glad to see you back around the site again and I hope you’ll continue to chime in with your thoughts.
It’s too bad we can’t compare the advanced defensive numbers of Backman and Murphy. It would be interesting to see which one graded out higher.
