Newsflash! The Mets have called up their top hitting prospect and the prized return on their R.A.Dickey trade this past off-season, Travis d’Arnaud. We may be playing without David Wright and Bobby Parnell but we’ve just promoted a most significant piece of our future.
The promotion, of course, was triggered by John Buck’s paternity leave this weekend. Sandy Alderson has already said that he has “not ruled out the possibility of d’Arnaud staying (with the club) beyond Monday”. With his call-up to the majors, he can seize the moment and become the primary handler of the Mets most important asset; their pitching staff.
In 19 games at AAA Las Vegas this year, he is batting .304 with 2 HRs and 12 RBIs with a slash-line of .304/.487/.554. Overall, so far this seaon, he is batting .286 with 3 HRs and 20 RBIs.
He will join the Mets for tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres so mark today’s date on your all-time Mets’ calendar. It may not rank as high as the day the Mets won the Tom Seaver draft lottery, or the day Johan Santana pitched the team’s first no-hitter but its significance cannot be under-emphasized. If d’Arnaud produces offensively, if he shows the leadership and defensive skills at the major league level which he has shown in the minor leagues, the team will look to this day as one of the most important dates in the team’s return to relavence.
Its Mejia (1-2) vs Volquez (8-10) at 8:40 tonight. Hey Met fans, now is the time to TUNE IN!
I am just as bullish on d’Arnaud too (but I am trying very hard to keep my exuberance in check). He is the primary player that our beloved R.A. was traded for. ( yet Noah may be the real prize) The Mets are finally promoting an impact offensive player. Realistically, it will take some time to adjust and learn to be a major leaguer but by this time next year we may have a strong 5th hole batter. My red pen has appropriately circled the calender date.
I’ll be watching for sure! I think he’s gonna hit from the get go
There is no reason to send him back to AAA when Buck comes back. Option Recker. d’Arnaud is the future at catcher and the more exposure he gets at the major league level this year the better.
I agree. No reason to send him back down at this point.
It’s day 1 of Mets A.D. (After d’Arnaud).
