Since Matt Harvey’s season-ending injury the Mets have made six moves to add pitchers to the roster. The list starts with the maddening Daisuke Matsuzaka and continues with Robert Carson, Vic Black, Tim Byrdak, Sean Henn and Frank Francisco. MetsBlog reports the team is likely to add Greg Burke and Aaron Harang in the near future.
Five of the six pitchers who were promoted to New York had to be added to the 40-man roster, as will Harang. That makes it that much more exasperating when you consider why they didn’t add – or plan to add – Darin Gorski. But as much as that decision baffles me, there’s a move that’s been made that infuriates me.
At no point this year should the Mets have rewarded Francisco with a position in the majors.
When the Mets signed Francisco, I was in favor of the decision. When he pitched poorly to start off 2012, I thought Terry Collins made the right decision to stick with Francisco as his closer. And just when it seemed like Francisco was ready to take off, he got hurt.
As we all know, pitchers get hurt. Then Francisco took what appeared to be a long time to recover from his injury. When he did come back last August, he didn’t pitch particularly well before shutting it down in mid-September.
The injury lingered and so did Francisco in his “quest” to return to the active list. He lost his closer’s job and along with it the desire to return to the majors. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Andy Martino reported in the Daily News that Jenrry Mejia, “had Frank Francisco advising him to stay in Port St. Lucie and collect his big league D.L. money, rather than work to return and be optioned to the minors.”
Insubordination should not be tolerated in any way, shape or form.
The Mets should have activated Francisco from the disabled list and cut him. People always wonder what kind of message various moves will send to other players. Yet, no one is saying that in this case. It boggles my mind. In general, I am pro player. But the bottom line is that you cannot let the inmates run the asylum.
The Mets need pitching to make it through down the stretch. But they would be better served promoting someone from one of their three rookie league franchises before letting Francisco wear their uniform again. It’s a disgrace.
The only thing worse is the continued bypassing of Gorski.

I’m in lock-step agreement. This guy is a headache and it’s a disgrace he’s back.
I wonder who makes more embarrassing moves, the Mets or the Dallas Cowboys? And, they are both my favorite teams. Why me?
If this is common knowledge why would SA allow him to dictate his return? It’s only to show other major league teams that he’s “fully” recovered. Why give him that opportunity? Bring him up but don’t use him. If he says something detrimental about the team then you suspend him. You can always say that the team needs to look at their young pitchers to determine their future within the organization.
I didn’t know about that Francisco-Meija thing, and frankly, Meija would be an idiot to listen to him. He’s only had 140 days of service coming into today, which is around 3/4th of a season’s pay (around 500k), which is ~375k(probably much less once you take out the taxes). Now that’s still a nice chunk of change, but not enough to live comfortably for the rest of your life without working.
Francisco, if he’s only playing baseball for the money, has made over $21+ million (almost half with the 2 years with the Mets lol) in his career and could retire nicely without have to work.
I agree whole heartedly Brian. The ONLY good news is that with the season lost already and heading into the second week of September, there’s really only so much FF can do damage wise.
More and more moves by Alderson baffle me.
Hey I just thought. Maybe Sandy does want that Top 10 pick. More headaches, more bad pitching etc. It makes you go hmm.
The Mets don’t need any additional “help” from the front office. Their remaining games on their schedule will pretty much rap up their quest for bottom 10
Ummm no. They have 4 games vs the Nats, 3 vs the Reds, (1 with the Indians) and the 14 other games are all sub .500 teams. I still don’t think the Mets will finish bottom 10.
