MLB.com has released its top 30 Mets prospect list, which you can see here. The best thing about the list is the pictures that accompany each player. If you’re looking for analysis, you’ll be disappointed. But that’s okay. At this point you likely know who all of the guys are, anyway.

The Mets’ system is deep enough that you’re never going to find consensus. My belief is that Plawecki is way too high. At this ranking, you’re essentially saying (in this farm system) that you think he’ll be an All-Star if he remains healthy.

Also, my preference would be for the four SP at the end of the list all to be ranked ahead of the wild lefty reliever who has nearly as many walks (36) as innings (37.1) in Triple-A.

Just the nature of prospect lists. Like they say for every 3 top prospect, 1 makes it, 1 gets hurt, and 1 doesn’t make it. Not to mention the Lagares and deGroms who never seem to be a hot prospect but go on to do great things.

Possibly, just possibly, we may get one of our back. I’ll believe it when I see it.

The Orioles may offer to return Rule 5 pick Logan Verrett to the Mets, speculates Joel Sherman of the New York Post. If they do, Verrett could be included in a trade package for lefty reliever Brian Matusz. The Orioles are shopping their excess pitching per Sherman, with Matusz appearing in the most rumors. Several clubs, including the Mets, are hunting for left-handed relief.

At this point, it’s hard to believe the Mets want Verrett back. They have an overflow of pitching and frankly there’s no room for him in the system. I also find it difficult to believe that the Mets would take on Matusz’ contract.

That’s a super-aggressive ranking of Plawecki. Maybe position is being taken into huge consideration here. It’ll be interesting to see how the year plays out with d’Arnaud in Queens if he struggles again while Plawecki is knocking on the door.

That’s a mighty strong list no matter how you slice it. I like Plawecki a lot, but I can’t necessarily see him as a consistent All-Star. That would be fantastic though if he could prove us both wrong.
