The Mets couldn’t make it a franchise-best 12-game winning streak on Friday versus the aged Yankees. It wasn’t just a bad loss, it was fairly embarrassing. The Mets had not just winning momentum on their side, but city momentum as well. The Yankees, while still a fragile team, have been producing the third-best run total in baseball. Meanwhile, Michael Pineda looked very sharp over seven strong innings of five-hit baseball, while striking out seven and walking none. The early offense seemed to carry the energy of the game the rest of the way, resulting in a loss that felt like a noogie from your older brother.
Jacob deGrom was shaky over just five innings. He surrendered six runs, five of which scored off of a home run. Mark Teixeira particularly tortured deGrom, by slugging two home runs and driving in four. Meanwhile the Mets offense couldn’t rally another big inning, this time scattering five hits for just one run. It was a unfortunately return to 2014 baseball, as the lineup struck out eight times, and walked zero. The Mets still have the ability to take the series, and with Matt Harvey pitching tomorrow the winning ways may soon swing in the Mets favor.
Was hoping for a blowout so we wouldn’t have to use Familia. Guess I need to be a little more specific next time.
Hope Harvey goes 8 innings and the Mets win.
More like a power wedgie.
I heard deGrom was throwing too hard last night — so there wasn’t enough speed differential between his fastball and other pitchers.
I expected a loss(if not such a decisive one).
