Well that wasn’t the plan. The Mets dropped two of their last three to the Miami Marlins, and wouldn’t you know it Dee Gordon was in the mix of it all yet again. Not only has Gordon been red hot overall, hitting above .400 on the season, but against the Mets he’s hitting a ridiculous .464. He also delivered the go-ahead sacrifice fly before Ichiro Suzuki blasted a three-run shot that put the game out of reach for the struggling Mets offense. The Mets, who couldn’t put up more than three runs in any game versus the Marlins, have been sputtering lately with the bottom half of their order being hard-pressed to provide any consistent offense. Wilmer Flores has just one hit in his last 12 at-bats, and committed his fifth error of the season.
Bartolo Colon couldn’t collect a league-leading fifth win, but didn’t exactly pitch awful as he gave up four runs over 6.2 innings. The bullpen struggled today, as Hansel Robles and Alex Torres combined to allow three runs while recording just two outs between them. The Mets weren’t very patient at the plate all series long. The entire lineup collected 10 walks in three games, with Lucas Duda and Eric Campbell providing six of them. The Mets will look to cool Denard Span and the blistering Nationals at Citi Field tomorrow. The Nats have scored 13 runs in each of the last two games, driven mainly by Span the Man who has seven hits, six runs and four RBI in the last 12 ABs. Jacob deGrom will look to bounce back from his roughed-up outing in the Bronx earlier in the week.
Remember, last night Campbell hit cleanup and 6/7/8 were Tejada/Nieuwenhuis/Recker, so “bottom of the order” is slightly misleading.
Comparing Miami’s infield defense to the Mets’: see what happens when you can actually turn the dp?
Is it me or has Duda not looked quite right since his Yankee Stadium homer?
Swinging on the high 3-1 pitch during the at bat the resulted in a double play Speaks volumes because Duda is a low ball hitter. When the team was winning, he was selective. Now, it could be that the losses have him becoming more aggressive; impatient. There hasn’t been much protection lately for him, but if Cuddyer is decent and Murphy can get it going, with Wright coming back Duda should be able to relax. However, that is a series away; an important four game series. Hope deGrom and Harvey are lights out.
Storm clouds are blowing in…
SP 4.65 ERA this turn thru the rotation so obviously not going to win many games with that number. The two games we won in the stretch were, of course, the 2 well pitched ones.
They really miss Wright and d’Arnaud.
Hated that once again TC was afraid to use his full pen. What’s the point of the 8-man if you don’t trust 4 of the guys out there? It’s beyond ridiculous.
And by the way: Nelson Figueroa has ruined the pre- and post-game shows for me. He’s so corporate & bland. Just the worst. And Gelbs is the most boring guy on the planet. Very disappointing to take an exciting season and wrap it in boredom.
I don’t get to see Figueroa – just read what’s posted at MetsBlog. In print, he seems quite willing to criticize players for not getting the job done, something which is usually a problem for ex-Jocks.
He’s got a tough act to follow in Bobby Ojeda.
Gross. That’s all I have to say about this one.
Wilmer Flores is more suited for 3rd base.
David is inked for a long time.
Flores can drive in runs.
Something has to give here.
Murph’s d, adequate when he is hot, has suffered, as has his concentration through the slump. D Herrera is .370 in AAA
Troy T still on the horizon? How about Matt Reynold’s defense?
Sorry Peter, he’d 1 or 2 hop every throw to first.
