The Mets dropped their second straight 1-0 game Sunday afternoon against the Nationals. Since winning 11 in a row, the Mets are now 3-7.
- Dillon Gee was the hard-luck loser. He didn’t pitch particularly good but anytime as a SP you give up one run and take the loss, it’s a tough one to swallow.
- Alex Torres was phenomenal in relief, pitching two scoreless innings and pitching out of a big jam in the sixth inning. That changeup/screwball pitch that he throws is just nasty.
- Michael Cuddyer was called out on a check swing in a key spot in the game. Something has to be done about check swing calls. The home plate umpire is calling guys out on check swings that the opposing catcher wouldn’t have either bothered with an appeal to the base umpire five years ago.
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis ended the game with an infield pop. He has just 2 hits in 22 ABs and sports a .095/.174/.143 slash line. As the only LHB on the bench, that’s horrible.
The whole bench is a cancer…not one of those guys can play. We need a complete overhaul…Cuddyer is brutal so is Granderson. We have one guy on offense that is worth anything, Lagares.
Let’s remember that two potential twenty home run hitters are out of the lineup inTdA and Wright or conceivably their #3 and #5 hitters.
Collins and Sandy don’t agree on the SS position. Sandy was foolish entering the season without a safety net. TC is foolish insisting on Tejada.
Granderson, Cuddyer and Murphy are not providing the veteran presence offensively. They still need a bat or immediate improvement from 2 of these 3.
Familia has done a great job.
16-10 First Place, I’ll take it.
Hey look, I’m still optimistic, I just hate to see them waste a good start. The Nats are going to be tough so I hate to see them give it all back. It just pisses me off that when Sandy had a chance to bring significant bats, we got Grandy and Cuddyer. They need someone to emerge as a thumper in this lineup.
Sorry, Cuddyer broke his wrists. Strike three!
Lesson learned this weekend – if you don’t score you cannot win.
Lesson reinforced – Kirk Niewenhuis is not a major league player.
The knock on Kirk has always been vs lefties. Today he failed in a big spot against a righty. He’s lost.
kirk has a big, loopy swing. Not conducive to making consistant contact.
He easily falls into bad habits
