The Mets made it two in a row and ended with a series win with their victory over the Brewers on Sunday.
- Noah Syndergaard made it look easy today. He was cruising until he hit Carlos Gomez in the head with a pitch. Gomez eventually walked off under his own power but Syndergaard was clearly shook up by the incident. Still, he got out of the inning with minimal damage. It’s going to be tough to send Syndergaard down when Dillon Gee returns. I wouldn’t do it.
- Curtis Granderson led off the game with a solo homer. Do people still consider him a problem?
- Juan Lagares broke out of his slump with a two-hit game. After Lagares’ performance today and Wilmer Flores‘ outing Saturday, hitters are going to clamor to bat ninth. Maybe we can bat Michael Cuddyer there.
- Milwaukee scored nine runs in the series and five of them were driven in by Ryan Braun. People always consider Jean Segura a potential trade target from the Brewers. Perhaps Braun might be a more interesting target. Of course, Milwaukee would have to pick up a hefty portion of the contract. And we’ll have to factor Chris. F’s mental health bills into the equation, too.
Oh man, what a day at the park. It was so cool to see Syndergaard get his first win. We had rockin seats in section 112. Syndergaard is a beast. He was really upset at hitting Gomez, and had to turn his back to the plate. Monel and Collins had to calm him down. It was so cool to see Degrom and Syndergaard win back to back. Braun was heckled mercilessly, and Im thrilled to have contributed at the top of my lungs. The whole crowd was after him. “Cheater!” “Booooooo!” “Doper!” We’re all endlessly screamed his way. I believe there would be physical health bills to figure in, and possibly lawyer costs as well!!!!
What a great day!
Awesome Chris F. !!! Do you think you can stay in New York for the Cardinal series so that they can keep winning!
I too think that Gee is going to the bullpen or traded. Syndergaard is the future and the future is now.
Read today that, “The Mets at some point this season could trade Daniel Murphy, move Flores to second base and promote Matt Reynolds for shortstop, Fox’s Ken Rosenthal suggests.” That is a plan but maybe they can get a shortstop like Miller or Owens instead of Reynolds without giving up a Syndergaard or Matz. There are other pitchers like Gee ,Colon, Niese or Montero that Seattle may be getting desperate to have.
Let’s get at least a split vs the Cardinals. The Mets are still in First Place!
If wishing could make it so Metsense! Harvey up next!
Alas, work beckons.
This was a satisfying win, especially with Syndergaard living up to his potential in this start. All we can hope for is Gomez having a speedy recovery from that scary incident.
I was also at the game yesterday (not as close as Chris F unfortunately).
Glad I got to see Noah’so first W.
I think yesterday was just a testament to our entire season. Bats produce and everything falls into place. Our starting pitching will keep us in games for the rest of the season and the bullpen is above average. It all comes down to the bats.
Really looking forward to David and TdA coming back. I think that’ll help Murphy and Cuddy see better pitches.
Also, what are everyone’s thoughts on how TC has been managing the pen this season. I know that’s always been a concern.
Hope to be part of more Chatters soon. Let’s go Mets!
Even with the 2 hits yesterday, Lagares is batting just .224/.255/.286 this month (which is what happens when you stop having a 400 BABIP) with only 1 XBH (the homer in Chicago).
I thought he was going to steal more this year, but that hasn’t happened much either (although he does have 2 in the last 4 games) and with the disappearing power, the question of whether he provides enough defensively to offset his offensive side is going to start to come into question. Too bad Kirk is stinking it up as well this year.
I can’t see them sending Syndergaard down if he can perform like this every other game. He was pretty dominate, granted it was against one of the worst hitting teams in the league, but still.
I don’t think the Mets will try for Braun for several reasons. Trade cost, money, and reputation.
I am happily surprised that Gomez wasn’t down for longer. That looked and sounded very ugly.
I like the look of Gerado Parra on the Brewers, if we had to go there.
